Administrative Officer NICS Competition

Saw a discussion on last years SO competition and thought I would start one on the admin competition that started at Christmas. Completed the online tests and have got invited to the assesment centre for the invigilated test. Anyone with any info or anyone who has applied go ahead and let us know your thoughts!!

Hi I applied for this but didn't get in the first 2000. Do you know how many applied overall?

We have been told that there is supply from the external AO comp if we have positions to fill, there was however no mention of further interviews or requests for panels

I’m guessing they are focusing on so and dp right now as well as finishing off the g7 as there seems to be huge demand at the so and dp level but no supply

Hopefully people will request AOs and this will show a supply need and they start up the ACs again

Thanks. Well hopefully hear some kind of word soon. I have a job working in the NHS as a clerk and it is going to be a big decision on whether or not to leave my post here(permanent post) if I get offered a NICS job. Suppose I could cross that bridge if it came to it. Would there be much room for advancement? I have a degree also- would that open doors? Just wondering really so I can weigh it up.

Very rarely will a degree help, unless it’s a very specialised role I have never used mine for any job I’ve gone for in NICS, the likes of PRINCE2 would get you further. I would say there’s a good few opportunities. It’s been a while since an eo board which would be the next step.

Plus after these DP assessment centres they will have finished the list so once everyone on them gets placed, which I won’t imagine will take long they’ll need another one considering up coming retirements

My brother came in 3 years ago as an EO2 and after less than a year got EO1, then SO and is now a DP some of that was right place at right time but at least they have gotten rid of only being able to apply for the position above and you can now skip grades.

I would recommend NICS I spent years in the private sector so know the advantages and haven’t become a disheartened civil servant, yet! If you’re willing to move departments and offices (I know people who blankly refuse to move 5 miles) and change roles I can’t see why you wouldn’t work your way up and quickly

Plus inside gives you more opportunities with the likes of trawls only open to internal candidates

Really interesting thanks. By a mad coincidence I was just emailed to say the interviews will not go ahead and the appointments will be made from the merit list on current standing. I am at something like 1100 or so. Not sure that would be good enough but I suppose you never know.

So they will appoint people based on the online tests only? That is very very interesting and the email we received last week would make sense that there were enough AOs to meet demand

Fingers crossed for you
Yeah I got the email last week too, basically said the top 500 on merit list would be appointed after clearance and confirmation of personal details. My merit position is 182 but I haven't heard anymore about the appointments. Hopefully it's not a long process though! I'm looking forward to a career change. Does any have any idea how long it would take? Weeks, months?
Me too! So excited to receive the email and I’m similar merit position ~ 200. I would love it if someone had any intel on when we might hear - driving myself crazy checking for emails!

Even knowing someone else in the same position gives me a bit of comfort. Had been feeling like I'd missed their email or something. Or that my merit position was wrong. Hopefully in the next week or so!
Smecky01 You were spot on with your prediction for this week. 😁

Awesome, you got one too? Very relieved. Can't wait to get the documents handed in and find out what's next.
