why is leather a renewable resource?

it says on the aqa spec that it's a renewable resource, why?
presumably because the meat industry will be breeding cows etc regardless, so leather will invariably be a byproduct of that, replenishing the "supply" of leather.
Also it's alternatives are all plastic based, and plastic is certainly not renewable.

Because the raw resource (cattle) can be easily replaced. It's not like something like coal where there is a finite supply of it

@CoolCavy's short but precise answer put it in a nutshell: coal (as fossil fuels for instance) is a finite resource in nature and comes to an end anytime, while the cattles can reproduce themselves to keep the population of farm animals for leather.
