Maths homework

The first term of a sequence is 13
The term to term rule is “take away 6”

Work out the 4th term


Anyone got any Ideas?

its an arithmetic sequence , use the formula an=a1 + (n-1)d
where an=nth term
a1= 1st term
n=number of terms
d=common difference
1). 13=19-6
2). 7=13-6
3). 1=7-6
4). -5=1-6
I’m just subtracting 6 from the previous answer.

Not sure if it’s right, I’m horrible at maths!

If the term to term rule is "take away 6" then you just have to take away 6 to get the next term. So

1st term = 13
2nd term = 7

What's the 3rd term and 4th term?

There's no need for a formula for a simple example like this. My guess is this is pre-A Level and maybe pre-GCSE.

I understand. I just said it because it's possible that a formula could confuse them depending on their level.
