Best method for measuring distances

Why is a particular method used above all others when measuring the distances to astronomical objects? Which particular method is it?

I’m actually unsure of which method it is. Sorry, I worded my question incorrectly. I’m looking to find which method is the best one.
Take a look at this page for a good intro to this. It talks about using parallax, but other methods are listed on the right.
