Archaeology and Anthropology

Hi! I am starting an archaeology degree in September (hopefully, the whole exam cancellation may end that dream) but I think job prospects are there depending on what you specialise in and if you are willing to take your education further. Archaeology is a very versatile degree and I like to think of it as being a detective of very cold cases. From my very limited experience I find that it provides analytical skills and others that are highly valued. It also depends on what kind of career you are looking for. Personally, I want to enter the academic sphere and do research, but there are also vacancies in museums, public research offices, historic sites and surveying. Deloitte (big financial / IT firm) are actually the biggest employers of archaeologists in the UK and other countries as the hands on skill of data analysis and computer generation is usually more developed than computer scientists as it is practised so much! I definitely think it is worth studying arch or arch and anth, although I may be a little bias . I hope this helps! 1. Southampton- MSci
2. Leicester - Bsc
3. Exeter - BA
4. Nottingham - BSc
5. Bournemouth - Bsc

Yes It would be super helpful to hear about your work experience. I am looking to do arch and anth but currently have no fieldwork planned. As I mentioned earlier I am taking a year out and part of that will be spent living in an eco village in Scotland which should hopefully support my anth part but would love to hear all about your fieldwork for archeology!

Hi, my daughter is starting an Arch and Ant in September at UCL this is her firm and she also has for her insurance UCL Arch , she had no digging experience but had spent some time working in a museum and read a lot around her subject ! She also had offers from Kings -and Birmingham , made it to the Oxford interview but not successful , hope this helps .
