Archaeology and Anthropology

I am currently in year 12 and am unsure on what degree I should study at university. Anthropology interests me and I have looked at Oxford where they offer Archaeology and Anthropology. I am just worried about possible job prospects and whether employers will value a degree like this? So, is it worth studying arch and anth?

Hi! I am starting an archaeology degree in September (hopefully, the whole exam cancellation may end that dream) but I think job prospects are there depending on what you specialise in and if you are willing to take your education further. Archaeology is a very versatile degree and I like to think of it as being a detective of very cold cases. From my very limited experience I find that it provides analytical skills and others that are highly valued. It also depends on what kind of career you are looking for. Personally, I want to enter the academic sphere and do research, but there are also vacancies in museums, public research offices, historic sites and surveying. Deloitte (big financial / IT firm) are actually the biggest employers of archaeologists in the UK and other countries as the hands on skill of data analysis and computer generation is usually more developed than computer scientists as it is practised so much! I definitely think it is worth studying arch or arch and anth, although I may be a little bias . I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions - I will likely to be able to answer a lot more when I actually get to uni.

Also, I got 5 university offers so if you need help with a personal statement or anything I am happy to help - I have a lot of free time with isolation.

Yes It would be super helpful to hear about your work experience. I am looking to do arch and anth but currently have no fieldwork planned. As I mentioned earlier I am taking a year out and part of that will be spent living in an eco village in Scotland which should hopefully support my anth part but would love to hear all about your fieldwork for archeology!

I did a 2 day test pitting excavations in Nonsuch Park looking for Tudor stables and small remains from nonsuch palace. However, they look for more than this! I also spent a week in a school which i linked to leadership and sharing my passions! I think the eco-village sounds great! In your personal statement you could link that by saying you want to experience a life that is in-tune with nature etc like the people of the past!

Hi Just wondering what grades your daughter had? I am thinking of potentially applying to Oxford but got AAB with an A in my EPQ after results day this year. Do you think I should apply or not as the grades are AAA?
