Hi everyone

Hi!
I would have to say although it is challenging, placement is my favourite part of the course because you are working with the whole healthcare team and putting your theory into practice but when we have time in uni it is also nice to see everyone else too

On the Ormskirk campus I would have to say the grounds as a whole particularly near the lake as they are beautiful especially if the sun is shining and it is a nice place to walk around if you need a bit of chill time. In manchester the new facilities just opened for working and also for socialising are brilliant too and are also good for some you time if you need it.

Tips for 1st years:
1. Be enthusiastic both at uni and placement - trust me if the tutors see you want to learn and improve they will go all out to help you

2. Keep on top of the work it will be hard juggling assignments and placement to start to with

3. Ask questions - especially on placement ask loads of questions

4. Make sure you put aside some time for yourself

And finally 5.
Enjoy it!

Hope this helps, if there is anything else feel free to ask
Hi, I've accepted my place to Edge Hill and am very excited to start in September. Just wondered how you found settling in - did you mostly do freshers activities etc. with flatmates or course mates, and did everyone settle in well? Also ,do you know how long the walk is from Ormskirk to the uni? Thank youuuu, R

Hi
Congratulations on your place and I'm sure you will really enjoy your time at Edge Hill. Regards to freshers week as I was already a graduate from another uni I didn't live in halls I lived with my partner in our own place but still took part in freshers activities. There is a mixture of freshers activities you can take part in both with flat mates and course mates and would strongly encourage both as it is nice to build that friendship from the start. Regarding walking from Ormskirk it is roughly a 20 minutes walk to the campus obviously depending on how fast you walk and there is also an Edge Hill Link shuttle bus from Ormskirk bus station that goes to the campus too.

Hope this helps

Hey!I'm currently just in the middle of seeing whether or not I have a place on the ODP course.. How FT is the course there? 9-5 lectures?? Obviously I realise that placement will be FT work. But as a mature student with prior surgical and Anaesthesia skills and knowledge I wondered whether I would be able to work a little bit alongside studying.

Hey! The lectures tend to be on a 9-6 basis when in university and you have the occasional study week or study day as well. It is full time but I know quite a few students who managed to work part time as long as you inform placement when you start of your hours and explain you need to work as a mature student. They expect placement to obviously come before a paid job but most are really accommodating
Hi, I am in y13 hoping to study odp next year at Edge Hill however I have a few questions

Hi!

Sorry for the delayed response the start of this academic year has been a little hectic with covid.

I can't tell you the questions that were on the interview but if you research the role and be prepared to discuss this and your motivation and experience then you should do great!

The course is quite demanding in terms of workload as you have full time placement as well as writing assignments etc but as long as you keep on top of your work and seek help if you need it, it is more than achievable

The maths and literacy test are quite standard nothing too hard and you should get some examples if not you can find examples online from nursing students etc

In terms of the anaesthetic phase, there are some calculations involved but the lecturers will teach you all the ones you need to know and really its then just applying them in practice, but usually that's the anaesthetist that does that

Any other questions feel free to get in touch

Hi,

Thank you very much for getting back to me 😀l

I have done my first daft for my PS and spoke about experience as a hca as well as the skills I have learnt from the job that would make me successful on the course as well as a qualified practitioner, I said I want to work in the aneastic phase

do you think it is worth talking about all three phases in my PS so they know I understand the different roles or don't you think that is nessecary??

Thanks in advance

Hi!
I personally wouldn't state you want to work in a particular area but maybe express a particular interest for anaesthetics as motivation for applying but also mention you are excited to learn about the others too
Hi,

Okay thanks very much

What are the class sized like, how many are there in yours? Is it small, big or what?

Thanks

Hi
We had around 27 in our class during first year and this dropped to around 20/22 in final year so they're not huge classes which is quite nice. I believe class sizes at Ormskirk may be slightly larger due to more space but there still aren't 100s of students like you might get on some other courses

Hi

I am not sure how they work regarding predicted but if it is an automated system you would need to be predicted the grades required but it is definitely worth emailing admissions to ask them

Hi
There were more females in my particular class but throughout the university I haven't really noticed an unbalanced mix regarding gender there are plenty of both males and females
