Online Filter Interview RAF

Hey,

I have my filter interview Thursday, its a new online one! Does anyone know if I still need to know current affairs

I have brushed up on my NATO, UN and current operations knowledge, going to go over bases and aircraft tomorrow. I know the 24 weeks at Cranwell and phase 2 specialist training. I have recently done a bout of interviews for my placement and am well versed in my own skills examples, CV and education.

Does anyone have any general advice? Or questions they remember?

Any thing is helpful!

What do you mean by an online one? Skype?

If you mean a Skype Filter Interview, I had mine a few weeks ago and it is conducted in the same manner as if you were at the AFCO in person.

I had an interview over Zoom a couple weeks ago, was the same questions I was expecting to get at AFCO.
They have a new video interview where the questions pop up on screen, there isn't another person at the other end. Have you got any advice on the questions you were asked?

Hi

It will be exactly the same as the one you would have taken at the AFCO, just via Skype. There's nothing different, apart from the fact you're doing it via a screen instead of face to face.

So... dress like you should (not just from the waist up, make an effort, it's still your entry interview), know everything you should and you'll be fine.

Kind regards

Hi

No, they don't.

It will be as I've advised above...

I have been told it will be questions on a screen and I just record it. I'm a UAS student and its a new thing they are trialling.

Hi

My mistake, I've just been investigating (slightly behind the curve not being in the building!) and you're correct, it's likely you'll have that version. It will cover the same/similar topics/questions too.

No worries, did you find out if current affair could show up. Because my understanding of face to face interview they would pick a topic out of your range, and then you would explain it and form an opinion and then they would discuss it a little. I dont think that would work if there isn't another person at the other end of the video.

Well-done for getting your interview
have a look on YouTube
The RAF have some videos on interview questions and you can also search for videos from other YouTubers who have been through this process

Good luck
Knowledge is power so leave no stone unturned.
I had my interview. I hope it went well, it felt like it but who really knows till the results come back.

If anyone is looks at this from the future, I did not have any current affairs come up and the people I asked did not have current affairs come up, that doesn't mean they won't or it can't change this is just what happened this time

I saw another post where they dident have current affairs brought up, Maybe because of the covid-19 situation they may of done a brief interview and will do you another one when the time is right I'm not sure

But well-done how did you feel it went. Did they give you any update for a follow up
What role are you applying for

I am applying for an engineering bursary under aerospace systems engineering officer. I am part of the university air squadron so the raf are trialling a new kind of filter interview, so Idk if the other one you saw was just an online one cos of corona or online cos of the trial. In theory I shouldn't have another one unless I've failed.

Within the next fortnight I'll know something. I feel it went well, some questions I think were a bit dodgy but no one is perfect and I smiled and felt confident, tried to maintain eye contact with the camera so we will see. I felt like I knew my stuff.

Was your interview with an actual person then? I've got mine tomorrow and have been told who is specifically taking it.

Hi

If you're applying for a UAS, then it's a pop up questions online. If you're applying for a role, you'll be having a face to face interview over Skype, the same way you would if you were in the AFCO.

Kind regards

I just had questions on the screen, with 2 opportunities to record my answer. This is just a trial for UAS Students only atm tho.

Btw I did pass if anyone still gets notifications on this thread!

Great news that you passed. Was it all the same kinds of questions that you were expecting? Did you get asked current affairs in the end?

Yes it was the kinds of questions I expected, bits about myself for the first half, and stuff about the RAF in the second like air power etc. No current affairs though, please do some research into current affairs if you are taking this style interview just incase though!
