sixth form subjects

im taking bio, chem, psychology and if i pick a forth should it be history or politics? anyone study those subjects to help me decide?
They're both quite similar subjects tbh. I do Politics and really enjoy it, it does delve into some history but also keeps things very relevant and current. I can't say much about History as I don't do it but I'd suggest you find out what history topics your prospective college does to decide whether you'd be interested in doing it.
thank you for your reply! i was wondering is politics heavy on the writing aspect? ive looked up the topics and its mainly elizabethian times. i did history gcse (well it got cancelled so :frown:) and i mainly liked it due to the cold war topics soooo idk tbh.

what sort of things is studied in politics?
also approx how much of your time do you spend on politics as opposed to your other alevel subjects?

There's a lot of political theory where you learn about differing political concepts (socialism, conservatism etc). Then there's a UK politics section where you delve into the British Politics system and then your college will either do Global Politics or US politics.

It is all essays, as I believe history is as well. So yeah, quite heavy on writing.

I do Politics, Economics, Maths and Drama. For me, Politics takes the least time out of me for my A-levels which has really been helpful for me in terms of managing my time. Especially given how time consuming Drama can be, thankfully you don't have to worry about that.

What exam board is your prospective college using for Politics? Mine is Edexcel.
I only suggest 4 a levels if its further maths or you're genuinely interested in all 4. I do history and I suggest doing it if you will be interested in the topics you will be learning

I spend the least amount of time on politics compared to my other alevels (maths, further maths, economics) bc all I have to do is hw (which is usually just an essay every couple of months) and keep up with the news
Thank you!

Thank you for your response! im not quite fond of the Elizabethan england topics so still debating it really. unfortunately my prospective sixth form makes all students start of with four alevels for yr12. im planning on dropping it to three as i move on to yr13 hopefully.

I wasnt fond of Tudors either but you go into more detail in A level it became interesting - it's worth trying and you can always switch it

All sixth form has a deadline when you can. For my school it was October. You just need to ask and make sure it doesn’t clash with your other subject
ohhh okay thanks!
