Whether to study at Uni of Liverpool or not

I've applied to Liverpool this year and am hoping I get a place. I also have friends who went last year. They all really enjoy it, particularly because theres a lot going on in the city and theres loads of things to do - shopping, the docs, the art museums and the Beatles museums/bars.
I've also visited Edinburgh and its a beautiful city with loads to do and lots of culture but its more expensive! Liverpool is particularly cheap in comparison.
If you do decide on Liverpool id love to know where you are thinking of applying in terms of accommodation because im stuck.

Yes please, any advice on private vs uni of accommodation and anything else you think I should know would be helpful.

What do you want from your accommodation? E.g. price, en-suite, proximity? And which subject will you be studying? I can advise you from there.

I'd prefer a double bed with ensuite, somewhere within walking distance to the uni. I am hoping to study media and communications. I'm not too fussed on price obviously as long as it isn't ridiculously expensive.

Most Liverpool halls have 3/4 beds, and all halls except Melville have en-suites. Also, all are in walking distance except for Greenbank. If you don't want to stay in university-owned accommodation, Unite, Europa and Gather are all within walking distance, although you might be sharing with students from different universities, if that's something that would bother you. Out of the uni accommodation in your opinion which is the best? Which halls did you stay in?
I love the look of the private accommodation but are they more popular with international students? And do you think it would be a mixture of year groups in the flats?

Yeah, one of my friends was 6ft6 and was fine in a 3/4 bed.

I stayed in the old Greenbank, which has since been demolished. I actually preferred being off-campus and getting a 20 minute bus in, but obviously not sure how that will work this year, and you probably don't want to walk for 45 minutes in the winter to get to campus.

To be honest, since their refurbishment, all of Liverpool's halls (minus Melville) are practically identical except for location, so I really wouldn't say one was better than the other. Obviously you don't choose who you live with, and that can factor into your experience, but none of my friends had a bad time in any first year halls (university or private).

Private accommodation is certainly more popular with international students - I know one friend who was put in a flat with a group of internationals who all knew each other, so some people might have found that difficult - she personally didn't mind and got along with them well enough to live with them in second year, although she socialised a more outside of her accommodation. I have had other friends who got put with all first years from the same university and would have preferred a mixture. It can completely vary - they do try their best to put groups together and keep first years together, but this can depend on the company that owns the accommodation. I don't think it's an issue living with international students, though. Plus, they all have to have a good level of English to be studying here in the first place.
