List of Year 12 Opportunities / Things to do

List of Year 12 Opportunities / Things to do

I made this list during lockdown. We may be able to start going out to events soon but in the mean time, here are some courses, documentaries and podcasts to help you write your personal statement.

Most of what's on my list at the moment is MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) just because they are the easiest thing to access and there are so many out there. So I feel like I should say this - don't buy the certificates! I mean, you can if you want but you can still talk about them in your personal statement even if you don't pay so there's not much point really. To my knowledge, everything I have listed is free.

If you have found any opportunities not included here then please let me know so I can add them to the list.

Glad you like it. I plan to add a lot more, especially to the humanities section, but it's getting late so not tonight.
Forgot to say, let me know if any of the links are broken or if I've linked to the wrong page. I think they're fine though.

Just updated the list and added quite a lot. I know I've still missed out some subjects like maths, business, psychology, sociology and philosophy but I'll add more soon so hopefully I'll have included almost every subject you can think of soon!

The MIT video series for maths on YouTube is really really good! I recommend the courses:
- single variable calculus
- multi-variable calculus
- linear algebra
- maths for computer science
- mathematical methods for engineers
- statistics for applications

Most will cover maths/FM content, but for some will extend beyond their current knowledge and for all will present familiar content in a more abstract way

Thanks, I'll add it to the list when I do maths. I literally know nothing about maths at all so this is helpful.
I've done the UEA intro to screenwriting and can recommend!

Glad to hear it's good, I've been wanting to do that course for a while but haven't got round to it yet.
nice list! could add codecademy and hackerrank to CS, both very good from my experience. (latter has interview-style programming questions)

ProjectEuler is good but the maths involved can get quite complicated.

Thanks for directing me to this amazing thread!
Take time to visit the local area you live in, especially any woodland, parks or open spaces. Walking or cycling to them and maintaining social distancing. Have a break from screens/study each day.
this is a great resource, thank you for making this!! i'm sure plenty of people will find this useful
have changed the colour of the thread title so it sticks out a little more

Thank you for the links  Such a great resource. I'm defo signing up for the KCL course for law
Great post!

Have you thought about adding stuff like the Sutton Trust online summer schools and Zero Gravity mentoring for preparation for university applications?

Thanks, I would add the summer schools but it says there’s no upcoming ones to apply to and I’d rather keep this list for current year 12 stuff (although I could update this thread next year). It’s a good suggestion though. I haven’t heard of Zero Gravity so thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have a look at it.
