Oxford Mum will know the average grades that people get into Oxford Law with, which could be helpful for OP. Not that Oxford will accept or reject them on the basis of GCSE grades alone, they will take many other factors into account too

I want to get into law myself so I’m very curious to what she has to say.
Although I haven’t done my research into which uni might the best I’m just focusing on getting good grades for GCSEs at the moment.
Also because I’m scared yr10’s might get their predicted grades too.....

Hi Rose! The average number of A*/8/9s for an Oxford Law applicant is 5.2. The average number of 8/9s for an Oxford law offer holder is 8 or 9. Note OP has 7. The successful Oxford law offer holder on this thread has 8. Note the 8 or 9 A* is an average, so it may be ok. However it is different at Cambridge. I know someone who got a Cambridge law offer with lower GCSEs. However a Cambridge standard law offer is A*AA and for Oxford is AAA. I hope this helps you make a balanced decision. Of course you will also need to ace the LNAT for Oxford. There are LNAT practice books available on Amazon if you need one. Try the lawyer portal as well.

I’ll look into that thank you sooo much I’m quite young,only in yr10 about to do my GCSE’s but honestly knowing that you need quite high grades to get into law gets me more motivated to always push myself! Xx

I am very, very happy to hear this. It's never too soon to get going, so read a few starter books like Devil's advocate, quite a short, entertaining book giving succinct hints on how to get on as a barrister, including reading The Sun newspaper and practising speaking in front of a mirror into your hairbrush, lol

Or letters to a law student - that's another good book.

You are only in year 10, so you have time on your side. Look at broadsheets or newspaper at specific cases and see if there is anything you would like to research more. Or is there is any specific part of the law you would like to look into. The more you eventually start specialising, the better.

I always recommend you try to go to local magistrates/county courts to observe cases (when Covid-19 is over). Look at the case, the prosecuting and defending lawyers, the magistrate, the judge and appraise what you are hearing and how each professional approaches the case.

Apply on line to go to court? No you just turn up ( in the good old days you did) I think it’s 14 but just go and see when things get back to normal. Make sure you dress smartly. You cannot go to observe family court ( divorce) but my sons once went to Nottingham crown court to see a famous murder trial. A good idea would be to phone the courts themselves beforehand. It’s interesting to see both sides of the coin, the small cases and the more important ones.
