FINE ART in TWSD SWANSEA or GOLDSMITH

Hello! I got offer from both universities and I'm so confused what to choose.Could you please give some information about the quality of course content, the lecturers, guidance and training?Could you also throw some light on your own experiences in these two universities

Well goldsmiths is really really well known and prestigious for art, I believe it’ll have better industry links and opportunities and will look better in the art world to have. But an art degree is all about what you do with it and London is really busy so if that’s not the sort of place you want to live, at the end of the day it’s what makes you most happy. Swansea is a really good uni too it’s just not specifically for art yk?
Maybe have a look on the websites if both again?

Congratulations on receiving your offers! Our Fine Art programme is incredibly competitive so you should be very proud. I'd definitely recommend looking into both universities to see what programme, location, campus, etc. best fits your interests, but I'd be happy to give a bit of insight about studying Art at Goldsmiths!

Each BA Fine Art student at Goldsmiths is given a studio, and you will also have access to our nine specialists Art Practice Areas providing support for a wide variety of processes that complement and extend traditional disciplines, such as metalwork, casting, woodwork, ceramics, textiles, print, photography, 3D printing, graphics, video editing, animation and 3D modelling. We also have the Goldsmiths CCA (Centre for Contemporary Art) on campus which is an incredible multi-level contemporary art gallery that showcases a mix of internationally renowned and emerging artists.

In addition to the facilities on campus, South East London is an incredible place for young, emerging artists. There are a tonne of art galleries within walking distance, as well as creative cafe and bar spaces in the neighbourhood. We're also only one stop from London Bridge station, so you can easily get to the Tate Modern or other large, free galleries in Central London.

If you have any specific questions about the programme or area I'm always happy to help.

Hello Miranda,
Thank you very much for your answer, It was really helpful.
Can I ask you about the access to the nine specialists Art Practice Areas? For example I don't have to much knowledge about woodwork but I'm really interested in that... Will there be any help or initial guidance? is free? As for the material, is something provided by the university or do we have to buy all the material (wood, utensils ...) ourselves? [of course I'm referring to the others too, not only woodwork].
Many thanks!

No problem!

That's totally fine! Our facilities staff have arts backgrounds and specialist knowledge in their fields, and all processes, applications and equipment are offered to Department of Art students and staff with full technical support. It is free to access and utilise the facilities/machines etc., however you will need to purchase any additional materials for your work (such as wood, canvas, etc.).

Hope this helps!

Hi there, unfortunately as the programme is incredibly competitive we are unable to accept applications after the January 15 deadline for our BA Fine Art programme. You can apply for 2021 entry if you're interested in joining us next year!
