Anyone Else Shielding from COVID?

hey everyone, I know this thread is kinda late but still I thought Id make it.

Is anyone else here shielding from COIVD 19? How have your experiences been so far and what are you doing to keep occupied?

I'm shielding because my parents are both high risk and we get my oldest brother to go and do the shopping for us. I've got so much schoolwork I don't really mind being at home and I like the responsibility. Then again, I moved schools this year and never made any friends so the loneliness has been kinda CRUSHIN lmao. I just spend most of my day working, looking at the future (unis, apprenticeships) and playing video games. Honestly, it's gotten pretty boring and I feel like I'm wasting my time now. Think it'd be easier if I actually had someone my age to talk to

Yeah, I'm shielding. I've struggled quite a lot with my mental health for various reasons, and my physical health has deteriorated due to things being put on hold (understandably). My mum's been worrying quite a bit about her job (she works in a school) so far though, all is well in that department.

Keeping occupied? Idk. I'm just doing the stuff I usually do, internet, game, sleep, physio, researching stuff, etc. I'm quite limited in what I can do though, because of disability, so...idk. :dontknow:

How about you, @quasa?

Sims, Animal Crossing, etc. TLOU2 as well now because finally, they added things that make it more accessible for people like me! I hope more survival horror games become accessible. That'd be great. Do you play games?

Same, that's what I have here (+ a Switch). I love horror games. :colondollar: I still try to play them (I have a huge catalogue of games, and different consoles that I share with my brother, most of the consoles are with him because I have no room in my...room). It just doesn't go very well often, so I get frustrated quite easily. So I often resort to Let's Plays, or getting my brother to play them lol. My hands don't work correctly, I have a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and one of the issues it causes me is problems with my hands, dislocations, pain, fatigue, joint locking, etc. So I can't do things like rapid button presses, struggle with aiming because my thumbs don't work correctly, I also can't hold still due to a tremor, etc. It causes a bunch of other problems as well, but yeah. It makes playing survival horror games hard because I basically instantly die. Doesn't make for a very fun experience lol. I also having hearing loss so I can't always hear enemies if they stealthy, etc. Just a lot of random issues, which are somewhat helped by the accessibility features that Naughty Dog implemented.

everyone in my house is shielding (parents can understand, me is an absolute mystery why I have been identified (im narrowing it down to the fact i have been prescribed a calcineurin inhibitor in the past...which was a) topical and b) I never used); or to the fact I had MERS in 2018 which took me 4 and a bit months to fully recover from).

know your pain, january had a really nasty neck and shoulder injury, had to wait till march for physio (my employers were being absolute A holes and I left that job but they were being a holes letting me go as 6 other people handed in their resignations in the week before I handed mine in, and mine was out of the blue for them), physios are not following up, need scans but scans have been cancelled at my local hospital till October/November for non-urgent patients (which I am deemed...despite the fact I was struggling to keep upright, wear clothes, sleep and other things when it was at its worst). parents are lucky that theyre both pensioners but am concerned about myself as I want to get properly checked out and get back to doing exercise / doing proper work.

currently, am signed up to a bunch of online courses, playing games, doing physio exercise, internet and supposedley doing some work from home but in reality, it mainly involves trying to convince people I am not a telemarketer.

know the feeling. i miss being able to go places, meet people, doing proper exercise (like xtrainer, weights, swimming - jogging doesnt really burn much calories for me and). 1 thing I found interesting was playing online games when it comes to communication. similarlly, a lot of people I know who I havent had time to chat with irl due to them being in work / family commitments are more available so i have been messaging them more but that doesnt feel the same.

You could ask? I'm shielding for various reasons. Are you managing OK with shielding from a MH perspective?

Ahhhh, I'm sorry, I feel your pain too. What happened (if I can ask)? I hope you get things sorted soon. I'm mostly OK managing my own issues with dislocations etc., I just email my physio. if I have issues, would prefer to see them in person though. I know my main areas of deterioration are sorta urgent (they'll be dealt with ASAP as I am going into central London for them next month, wish it was quicker), but if anything goes drastically wrong, which it might, I have to go to A&E - my GP was adamant about that. My body apparently really likes to play with fire, so that'll be... interesting if it happens. :erm: Another friend of mine was recently booked into surgery (finally!) despite shielding, it's for the end of this month. Hopefully you get to see someone sooner.

What games do you play? Aw, no, I hope no one yells at you on the phone because they think you're a telemarketer. I'm sorry if they do!

You too body, hope our bodies recover well. I think it was over exertion in a pharmacy (standing with head in awkward position bent down, sitting and having to twist around and driving 2 and a half hours a day) and 1 day, I woke up with a very sharp pain in my neck. Immediate worry was a stroke but it didnt have any symptoms (and blood test confirmed that wasn't the case) but it just kept getting worse. I was unable to support my body upright, had to wait 2 months to get an initial physio appointment and work was unrelenting (none of my colleagues were helpful and were being jerks).

Fortunately patients have been polite but the way they tell me to sod of is a really polite middle class English way of doing so:lol: in terms of games, platinum trophied persona 5 royal in 85 hours of gameplay, been playing gta online le, gundam battle operation 2 (personal fab f2p game as its like armoured core but with anime robots and battles on ground and in space / customisable pilots and mechs). Also been playing the free ps plus games as well but sometimes I avoid it. Pretty much waiting for ps5, as well as wd legion to come out. Also been playing yugioh on a Web browser simulator that's pretty interesting as it gives a good opportunity to talk to random people around the world (last week, I played against a team comprising of a guy in his 29s and his 50 yo father - seems his old man liked playing it 2 years ago when the son was younger both been playing since, the son played modern cards, whereas the father was old school cards)

Recovery with EDS is a weird topic. I'd settle for a bionic body though, that would help a lot. aw, I'm really sorry your coworkers haven't been helpful. Sounds awfully painful.

Ah, yes. GTA. Really good place to mess around lol. I've never played Persona 5, although I have heard of it, what's it about?

That's quite cool that you got to speak with such a variety of people. YuGiOh was big when I was a kid (I'm 26). Do you play on it often? I've heard of Gundam as well, one of the tech. YouTubers I watch is obsessed with it (UrAverageConsumer is their name).

Naughty Dog = best company lmao. Apart from Rockstar and Bungie maybe. Feels bad man about how you struggle but MAYBE it's better for a survival game to give it more authenticity cos you get shot in game but you're fine irl XD

As in when we sit in our chairs at a nice environment and watch our character be mortally wounded but we keep controlling them like we're fine. I'm not saying you're not fine or be rude just tryna make a joke but it's hard online lmao. I like bungie cos they actually talk to the player base and listen but that's just me

I mean you can still die with the accessibility features turned on, you can also turn them off, so.. Idk, I guess I'm not really grasping what you're saying. Unless you mean my struggle adds to the characters struggles?? idk lol I don't think I've really ever thought about it that way, but it doesn't really give it anything, because without accessibility I can't actually play. :dontknow:

Do they? I've heard the opposite. :erm: I'm unsure if I'm really a fan of many developers in the triple A space tbh lol. But then I might be disillusioned.

persona 5 (and royal) is an interesting RPG and is probably the only RPG I like. its a game which combines being in highschool with trying to cause corrupt individuals to reform by changing their hearts (beluieve me, your better off reading about it). if you do play it, id recommend getting Persona 5 Royal as it addresses a lot of issues with Persona 5. and you dont need to play previous games to enjoy this one. just be aware, there is some hellish / demonic imagery in the latter stages of the game, so be warned if your not into that stuff.

I havent played the real life yugioh in over 10 years, but only started playing it online over a year ago.

Gundam is a franchise which people love to hate because a) the franchise is over 40 years old and they have no idea what series to watch; and b) the series peopel tend to watch are either riddiculously old (the original series) or are lame (gundam wing), and c) people tend to assume its a kiddy show based on dubs but in reality is a surprisingly complex political drama which changed the landscape of anime when it 1st aired in 1979 (before it debuted, anime tended to be kiddy shows or porno; gundam changed all that and introduced character driven storieswith moral ambiguity, complex characters and a coming of age tale which highlighted the traumas of war which resonated more with uni students and teenagers than it did young children). With Gundam, there is a main timeline, Universal Century (UC) and alternate, standalone timelines which have no connection to other gundam series. when recommending gundam series to people, I tend to recommend 3 non-UC series which are Iron-blooded orphans (on netflix), 00 (on youtube but crunchyroll has higher resolution and I find is better) and SEED (crunchyroll and youtube BUT would avoid the sequel series SEED Destiny as it is crap).

Ha, I think the only RPG I've played was Oblivion, which mostly consists of me being a troll to the people I encounter. I might have a read about Persona 5/Royal later, thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the potential TV watching spree, lol. If I watch it, I'll let you know.
