Psychology MSc Online Conversion course?

I am looking to start my Psychology masters, it would need to be done online and be a BPS approved conversion course!

Has ANYONE studied this with Derby / Northumbria / BPP...? Or any others that I am unaware of?

Desperately need some insider info as to which university to go for!
Thanks:smile:)

Hi,

There is a Distance Learning option for the Psychology MSc programme at Northumbria, which is still open for entry. We also have videos on Distance Learning at Northumbria and in particular the Psychology MSc Distance Learning programme which you may be interested in having a look at.

We also have a Virtual Open Day scheduled for 30th June 2020, if you are interested in hearing about the programme in more depth

Hi I am also looking into it, but haven't come across many people who actually did any of the online conversion courses...
Hey guys,I am just about to graduate from BPP University which provides an MSc conversion course in Psychology, accredited by the BPS. I loved every minute of it. It's very well structured, very friendly and helpful staff, and provides a great online community for discussing topics for your various modules. Highly recommend!

Hi Georgie,Hope you don't mind me asking: Have you've made a decision/found anything more out about the online degrees yet? I've just been looking at the one at Derby and it looks really interesting! 🙂

Hi

I started the psychology conversion masters at Derby Sept 2018.
I have a first class honours in teaching and was achieving firsts on my assignments with Derby, but I found the workload entiry unmanageable. To put it into context, I studied the part time route, but work two days a week and have two children under 5.
I just found that amount of time you needed to invest in watching online sessions, reading resources, learning about SPSS was endless. I worked in a group with 3 other people via video calls to create a huge assignment, and they were all doing it part time too, 2 were also working, young children, and they also felt totally overwhelmed. The one lady who was not working nor had any children felt more on top of it, but we all felt that, coming from non psychology undergrads, we were expected at Derby to understand things already that you would only know from studying a psychology bachelors. They didn't seem to bridge the gap very well, just kind of throw you straight in the deep end.
I think that If you have hours everyday to commit yourself to it you will manage it well, but i wouldn't recommend Derby to anyone!

If you don't mind me asking, did you end up graduating from the course? (asking because I have some questions about prospects after the course..)
Anyways props to you for juggling a part-time job, kids and an online masters all at once!

I dropped it spring 2019, began a conversion psychology masters in a brick uni, part time last sept. Even through a pandemic and ironically home studying, its been much more manageable and feel way more supported. I'd like to be an Ed psych eventually, that's my long term goal. I hope you find the right course, i wanted to share my experience as I searched this site for similar insight before starting the online conversion course and wish id known a bit more! Good luck

@LillianCloud Can I ask how long a break did you take from studies and how was it getting back into it? As much as I am looking forward to getting back into formal education I am concerned that it has been quite some time since I have written essays etc!

Hi all,
Glasgow do a part time 2.5 year distance learning conversion and Leicester do a similar course in 2 years. I narrowed my distance learning choices down to those 2.
I am looking to find out whether it is better to study one of the 1 year on campus full time conversion courses instead?
For example, is a part time online course actually more work in the end for the same result due to it being spread out more?
How about the conversion master degree distance learning by Arden university? Have anyone heard of it? I have no psychology background, so I think I need a longer period of time to digest information and integrate ideas. Arden allow students to complete the course in 5 years. And their fee is relatively reasonable. Can I ask for some insider insight?

Hey,

I am currently just over half way through my psychology masters with Arden and I love the flexibility of being able to work full time as well as study too. The course has 6 modules plus the dissertation module and does allow you to take two modules together (except the dissertation one) so you could complete in about a year if you had the time to do so. With student finance you have to complete within two years but self funded students can take up to five years to complete which is useful if you want to study at a slower pace because of other commitments or a change of circumstances. I don't have a psychology background either which is the great thing because it is a conversion course so covers a wide range of modules which also suit a wide variety of interests. Each module consists of a number of lessons, with discussion forums, quizzes, videos and a few Live Sessions at different times of the day so you can interact with your tutor and go through the material together as a group. These are recorded so if you cannot make one you can catch up when you are able too. There is also an online library, and study skills help with one to one sessions available for extra help, plus you get free student membership to the BPS which is really useful too.

I love that I can explore different interests of mine further within the field of psychology and it has already helped me to decide what I want to go on and do when I finish. I hope that is someone helpful?

Hi Andrei! I am starting my conversion at the BPP in January. Could I ask you a few questions about the course? I am not able to find too much feedback online so any feedback would be truly appreciated. Let me know how I can contact you best. Thanks:smile:

Hi Abagail,I don't know if you will look to receive this message but I am interested in studying an online conversion course and am feeling completely overwhelmed by options!I am looking at Arden and BPP mostly and just trying to figure out which would be the best option.I have three children and I am a single parent and work part time so it will be a stretch and because of all my responsibilities I feel extra pressure to make the right decision especially considering the financial implications!I have no psychology background but currently work as part of an MDT alongside psychologists and as I have got older found I am more and more interested in this topic. If you could chat through any more information with me that would be much appreciated.Did you have a psych background? How did you find the course? I did my undergrad ten years ago so feeling very nervous about studying.Any information would be very much appreciated.ThanksCharlotte

Hi Georgie, Which did you decide on in the end? I’ve been looking at online conversion masters in psychology too but it’s so hard to choose between them. I guess for me I want to know that the software they use to teach is reliable and easy to use. The unis that specialise in online learning are appealing but I also want the content to be interesting and for the teachers to be good. I ideally want to start in January 2022 and complete in 1 year full time. I graduated in 2007, have no idea whether I can still write essays! Nervous but excited about learning full time again.
Hi jenrhi,Are you enrolling this month somewhere?I also graduated a long time back (2008) but have been contemplating online psych conversion and then CP rather than psychotherapy.. which is what I was considering.
