Cambridge University Students!!!!

Hi what is it like studying at Cambridge?
Any tips for someone who wants to apply for engineering?
Super curricular ideas and what should I include in a personal statement for engineering?

Hey, I got offered a place in Cambridge to do Aerospace engineering, but I didn't end up going as I couldn't secure a good scholarship, and life decided to take me on a different path. However, I do think I qualify enough to give you a few guidelines on the application process.
I would say that in your statement, do include you personal aims and objectives that you wish to achieve from the programme, and what are the qualities that you have that will make you achieve your goals. Highlight on the transferable skills that you've obtained from your previous education and how that relates to the programme you are applying for. And finally, sound confident in your statement, it is a very obvious tell.

Yes, but you have specialisation options. I don't know how it works for local students, but when I applied from my country, we had to choose a specialisation when applying. This was also 3 years back, so I can't really tell for sure how things are right now.

You don't have to choose a specialism when you apply to Cambridge as an undergraduate. I've been working in Admissions for the past five years and this hasn't been the case when you apply through UCAS. You may want to indicate an area of interest in your personal statement (if you already know, but don't worry if you don't) but this doesn't bind you to your options in future. Our Engineers choose their specialisms at the end of their second year, but you have the chance to try out everything beforehand.

We're not really looking for personal statements that 'stand out' as such. We want to see that you're interested in Engineering - of any kind - and you've done something to show that. It might be reading around your subject, trying your hand at some coding, doing an Engineering-related MOOC (open access course online), or even trying some harder maths problems or creating a project of your own. What's important is the quality of reflection you gain from it. What did you learn? What would you do differently next time? Did what you read interest you and then you looked at something else? Did it link to anything you've studied in Physics or Maths at school?
