Detaining people involved in a public disturbance is perfectly legal and proper..
As for beating people (i wouldnt say innocent given we have no idea what they have or havent done) pretty sure thats standard police practice the world over, nothing 'fascist' about it.
You havent described a single thing that is fascist though? Given these tactics are used by countries on both the left and right...

Most of these 'protestors' just seem to be marching for the sake of it now, as all protests seem to devolve into at the end.

This has been the state of Portland over the last 4-5 years, at the very least. Why are people surprised that the Police Department has asked help from Homeland Security? Why is the Mayor of Portland asking the PD to cease and desist?

It's a ****ing shitshow.

This is trash. There were some minor disturbances basically. There were street protests, mainly peaceful. The whole thing has been wildly overblown by right wing media so that Trump can use it as re-election campaign fodder. What's going on now is a federal police riot.

Basically AOC, Pelosi, et al, who are asking for these officers to be identified, or calling them 'Stormtroopers' are talking claptrap.

In fact, both of you, who have called the Federal Officers and the DHS 'fascist', have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Given that the provisional wing of the Democratic Socialists of America have been going around doxing policemen and publishing their addresses on Twitter, I'm unsurprised that DSA members and supporters have been going around and calling for measures that would make doxing police easier.

I know, but they have occupied federal property. There's no way Pelosi or AOC can justify storming a courthouse without any provocation in a way that doesn't make them look like idiots, in the same way that ”the riots are just single mums just stealing bread to feed their families” did.

I suppose Pelosi, AOC and the like are doubling-down. If they say anything different now, it'll come across as accepting Trump was right, and they can never do that. I don't know, just what I think.

Offensive rubbish.

The protests were peaceful in recent times. The provocations that kicked all this off were far right thugs parading through the city a few years ago and the militarised police siding with them openly carrying weapons and so on and defending them against protests.

The current wave of federal violence against the Left was kicked off by graffiti on federal buildings.

That was met with beatings, shootings and internment by federal military.

Trump is using this as a political tool. The situation in Portland did not in any way justify the violence now being directed at many peaceful people by armed right wing soldiers acting on home soil against civilians without the approval of Congress.
