Grade 5 Moosic Theory exam

I would suggest buying the ABRSM music theory books, they have some explanations and example questions in them. Just a question, do you play a music instrument? If you have no knowledge of any other music theory grades then you may struggle and it may be a good idea to buy some for the previous grades to have some more practise, plus a lot of the topics are explained in the earlier grades.

I saw that on there but I'm worried if it's out of date? since it had been published in 2008

What grade are you on out of interest? I’m working towards my grade 8 on the flute and out of general knowledge I can complete grade 3 theory without any practise, though if I was going to sit grade 5 I would need to practise a lot and potentially get a teacher

The questions will still be more or less the same, all of my friends use those books. What examination board are you planning to sit with? I recommend you look at the music theory syllabus as the knowledge needed is roughly the same but may vary a little bit.

Grade 5 really isn't that hard. The only reason I did it so late is because I had a late introduction to music theory. I hardly even revised and did the early slot (my college let you do it winter or summer, I did it winter) and I got a distinction. If you're grade 6 now and are doing music a-level, you'll be absolutely fine. And remember if you do get stuck on anything, your instrumental teacher (or class teacher if you do a-level music) will be able to help you.
I'd also recommend musictheory.net. It's good for theory and aural, which is useful for practical exams too.
I'm grade 8 classical guitar, voice and theory (standard, the exams are too expensive), and I'm studying at a conservatoire in September, so if you have any questions about that, feel free to ask!

I can currently play grade six. However, during a levels i want to self teach, do the theory test this november (through studying books, and doing practice papers, using online resources too), and reach grade 8 as well as entering competitions. Yeah, seems a lot but I have high hopes... working at a grade 8 yourself?? That's great! I hope all goes really well for you, and I'm sure you'll find a great teacher soon since evryone is eager to get back on track after the pandemic ends.

The book I used was this one, https://www.amazon.co.uk/All-One-Grade-Music-Theory/dp/0993447503 which I found really helpful for ABRSM and someone who had never done any theory before. Grade Five theory is not too bad though, the only prep I did for it was this book and learning some words, and I got a distinction too. To be honest, I think that most of the books are pretty much the same.

It took about 9 months from scratch and I managed to get a distinction. Towards the end of book 5 I ran out of time (I didn't learn the words but luckily they were all German and I speak German so that was lit hahaha).
