Goldsmiths Media and communications BA - course inquiry

Hi. I will be getting my results soon and want to study BA media and comms at Goldsmiths- due to start this September 2020. What is first year like as well as other years and what have previous students studied during first year? Do timetables have long lectures throughout the week and were contact hours longer for this course? Can any of you recommend further reading for me and give me advise on essays and what lecturers are looking for in students? I know some people choose different study pathways each year as modules vary. I am into journalism currently and documentary making. I also love analysing film but like anthropological study too. Please can previous students get back to me about this course, I will appreciate your feedback very much. Thanks

For most uni courses in general the first year of study is likely to contain a few compulsory modules which have some very broad themes and aims. From there students are able to specialise down different avenues within media and communications. For each module you'll likely be given a module handbook which will contain advise about essay structure, writing style etc. Something that might be new for you is academic referencing - have a look on Goldsmiths website and see what referencing styles they tend to use and maybe have a go writing a short essay this summer and just practice your referencing (you don't have to, but you may find it helpful if you feel you might struggle with referencing).

For reading, look at this page to see what modules you'd typically be doing:
https://www.gold.ac.uk/ug/ba-media-communications/

And then go here to find the reading list for each module:
https://gold.rl.talis.com/index.html

For instance, here's the reading list for culture and cultural studies:

Note: DON'T BUY THE BOOKS

It's a waste of money, just use a library.
