Struggling to choose if I want accommodation?

Hi there I’m going to uni in September and Im really struggling to choose wherever or not I should have accommodation or not? I have to choose in around 3/4 weeks. I don’t know whether it will be worth it as is live 40 mins away, have a car and are quite a shy person anyway. Also due to the virus it’s mostly online and may not even be on campus 90% of the time and if i get roommates I hate it i think i would seriously regret it. As well with the virus it’s making it harder to choose as I don’t know if it’s worth nearly £7000 and your stuck there with little social interaction and if they is a second outbreak. As well does anyone know whether you can still change student finance if I choose not to stay? Any advice is appreciated thanks

I think it really depends on who you are as a person, going into halls might be better for studying depending on your home environment but it's completely subjective. Also If you move into halls you are more likely to meet people from outside your degree and make new friends!

However, I also have a friend who goes to Bham city and has to commute. I would say that even if you have a car it won't be helpful to get to uni as most unis tend to hate people bringing cars with them. My mate who goes to Bham city has to get the bus everyday for an hour despite it being half an hour and she tells me if it wasn't down to family issues she would live there as she doesn't get to socialise as much and finds commuting tiring. However, there's also people who live at home and love getting a break from uni and leaving everything at uni there.

However, I would say it's slightly different this year due to it being online so I see what you mean about getting your money's worth. It might be nice to meet different people outside of your degree and break out of your shell but like you said you're shy so I get what you mean.

It's nice to get that proper uni experience but £7000 is a lot. That being said, it also depends on whether you like having to get up early for a seminar as where if you lived there you could just stroll out of bed. You would probs have to spend the day there if you had a a lecture at 9-10 for example and another one at 2 as it would be pointless to go home. It's hard because we can't predict what's going to happen due to the pandemic and for all we know everything might be back to ''normal'' by January.

You can also change your student finance I'm pretty sure as many people have to change unis last minute meaning they have to move away or go home. Hope me telling you peoples' experiences and weighing the pros and cons for you helps! Best of luck with your decision and studies :smile:
