Hey, what's the plan for starting in September and the coronavirus? Are we still able to go to the uni, and can we have a freshers week?

Hi there

Courses will be starting in September yes. All applicants starting degrees in September will receive an email next week with specific information on how teaching will look for their course for Semester One. There will be online learning interspersed with some on-campus attendance depending on which course you are studying. All UK universities will need to adhere to government regulations with regards to social distancing and safety to students and staff. During the 2020/21 academic year, it is very likely that for new and continuing students, much of your module teaching will still be online in Semester 1 until Government restrictions on social distancing are lifted. Large lectures will be online and we will bring students on campus in small groups as it is safe to do so. Your course tutors will be working over the summer to further enhance your online teaching. They will be finding imaginative ways to deliver lectures, workshops and seminars online. You will also have regular interaction with your lecturers and tutors in discussions online. We are all working with them to bring all students back on campus when Government guidance allows.

Many thanks

Kim

Hi, can anyone tell if the Forum building on Harrow campus will be open to use if I come in September? Have you got many new undergrads coming to live at Harrow halls or is it going to quite empty with people choosing to commute and study online for first semester?

Hi, what course are you going to study?

@Tambarini: I'll be a second year Film student at the Harrow Campus. We did not recieve any information about accessing the university buildings, however, they said that for courses it is impossible to do online will definitely be provided on-campus access. The library won't be open until the second semester, apart from special requests.
I'll be staying at the Harrow Halls as well if we'll be able to go back for our lessons. I do not know a lot about how many people will be choosing this accommodation, but it's usiually very popular within freshers. In my Halls email they said that I've got a place if I confirm my arrival until the 7th of August because there are many students on the waiting list for a place in Halls. So I guess it's still popular, even though the pandemic.

Hi, I am hoping to do Contemporary media practice.

The email says "From 21 September 2020 to 23 October 2020 (teaching weeks 1-5) only specialist* teaching that is unable to take place online will take place on campus"
*specialist teaching includes the following subject areas: Architecture, Art, Animation, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Computing, Media, Fashion Design, Film, Music, Pharmacology, Photography, Psychology, Television Production and some specialist modules in Business, Marketing and Finance

I guess Contemporary Media Practice is a part of "Art" and "Media", so I guess you'll have some in-person teaching just like us Film students

Hi there

Yes international students will be able to start their studies in their country. You can then apply for your Visa and come to London when you are ready.

Hello,

did they send you the confirmation or the contract for the place at the accommodation in harrow? I also sent the completed form on August 5 and I haven't received anything since.

Hi,
I got my room offer on the 11th of August.. Check the spam mail and the promotions/etc mail I think. You can find your contract and pay your deposit on the accommodation portal if you've recieved your room offer confirmation.

Please pass on my objection to your institution's use of the word 'Semester'. This is the UK and we refer to periods of time for study as 'terms'.

The plans for the term are to be applauded and supported though.

Hi there

Yes the word 'terms' has disappeared from UK Universities but not schools. The majority of UK universities will only use the word Semester for a period of study and it's been like this for a fair few years now.

Hi Kim!
What is the situation with MA courses that start in January? Is it going to be a blended teaching? What about modules that can't be delivered online?
Can anyone give me the situation on international relations please?

Hi there

Semester two will be a mix of blended teaching. Modules that cannot be delivered online will be taught on campus. Our buildings are ready for safe socially distanced teaching in small groups. Anyone on campus will be required to wear face masks. More information on our response to Covid-19 can be found on our website.

Best wishes
