I have been accepted at my firm which is Royal Vet college for biological sciences but they’re not really a school for that subject and only started it in 2017 but the course looks so interesting. But I’ve also been accepted at my insurance Queen Mary for biology with a year abroad and it seems interesting too with field trips as well and they’re also a Russell group uni. if u were me which one would u choose ?! Pls help asap

Hi there. Congratulations on getting accepted into your firm choice uni! Both options you have are great. If you’d like to consider a third option we have an amazing Biological Sciences course at Roehampton. We have state-of-the-art labs, and the campus you study on (Whitelands) overlooks Richmond Park. You may have already read about our course, but if not, take a look here for more information: https://www.roehampton.ac.uk/undergraduate-courses/biological-sciences/

There’s also an option to chat to one of our current Biological Sciences students, to get a first hand account of what the course and university is like.

Good luck with your choices, and (maybe) see you at Roehampton soon! 👋

If you wanted to go to your insurance, you'd have to put yourself into clearing and get them to pick you up in it, you can't simply pick between the two. I'd go with the course that you prefer.
i would go for which ever one provides me with a better spread of topics to learn about, one with field trips and more practical work? if the courses are different write down the separate course components and work through which bits are of interest and which arent, then the one with the most interests could be a more appropriate choice? hope this helps!

I’ve been accepted to my firm choice which is Royal Veterinary college for biological sciences and also in my insurance choice which is Queen Mary’s for biology with a year abroad. I really don’t know which one to choose since their modules are actually very different and are 2 different universities. Can anyone please help me decide ?!

@User234567 Hi!

First of all congratulations on getting a place at 2 very prestigious courses and universities! I don't know what the modules are in detail, however I would recommend you read through them carefully and see which ones you might prefer. You might also want to check research opportunities in each if that's something you are interested in. I can only speak for QMUL, which is a Russel Group research-intensive university with a lot of research in the life sciences fields. Location and campus life is also something to consider. I believe Royal Veterinary College is in Camden, and QMUL is in Mile End, which are two very different areas. You could also check the clubs and societies that each of them have. We have over 60 Sports Clubs and the Students' Union Sports Leagues - many using facilities near Olympic Park and our dedicated sports ground in Chislehurst, as well as an elite athlete programme. We also have over 150 clubs and societies that you can join depending on your interests.Student support at QMUL is also outstanding (speaking from personal experience).

Of course this is only my perspective and I can only speak about QMUL, so it would be good to get the perspective of someone from the Royal Veterinary College too. Whatever decision you make, remember there is no wrong decision.

All the best,

I think this is a very hard but personal decision and the answer will arise from questions that you can ask yourself.

-Which university would help you the most for what you want to do in the future? Which one offers the most opportunities and which one is the most prestigious in the field you want to go into?
-Which course do you like the best? Compare them and decide.
-Which campus suits your tastes more? They're both in London so you can check the location of the university, the accommodation location and what is in the surrounding area. Maybe you should go on a day trip to visit both?
-Do you want to do a year abroad? Do you genuinely think you'll gain invaluable experiences from doing so? I wouldn't advise choosing study abroad just because you think it would be quite fun, only consider that if it's something you genuinely want to do.

You could make a pros and cons list using these questions to guide you! Whichever you choose you will have an amazing time, I promise. You could also watch Youtube vlogs to get a feel for the campus lifestyle in both unis! There are also social media groups to meet other people which might help you make a decision
Surely there is a reason why you picked one as your firm (other than insurance having lowe grade requirements).Think about why you ranked it top in the first place.

Yeh of course, I actually called them through clearing and they said they have spaces but unfortunately I’m down a grade for the course anyway but Im going to appeal because I feel like I could’ve received the grade they need

@User234567 Hey! Some of our Student Ambassadors have written articles and blogs on different topics related to uni life and our campus. Feel free to check them out here.

Also, we have a new video explaining how our campus will be Covid safe in September. Check it out here.

just be prepared that the appeal could take longer to come back than when you would need it for the university.

that’s what I’m quite worried about but at the same time if my place goes I think it’ll be fine I guess because I have my firm but thank you again for your reply
Just to say that although the degree title of Biological Sciences has only been used for 3 or so years at the RVC, the actual programme started over 15 years ago as the first Bioveterinary Sciences degree and has a long-standing pedigree of nurturing the next generation of research scientists, veterinary surgeons, medics, industry specialists, government & policy advisors etc. Good luck choosing the best option for you.
