Leeds accommodation

Hi guys, I just got an offer from Leeds and I'm wondering which accommodation is the best socially and overall? Can some Leeds students help me out in picking accommodation for my first year? Thank you

Are you looking for catered or non catered? On campus or off campus? What kind of room are you looking for? It also helps to have a rough budget in mind when thinking about accommodation

I am looking for a non catered accommodation, could be on campus or off campus but still close to it. I am looking for an en-suite room, my budget is around £6000 but can be £6500 maximum.
Hey congrats on your Leeds place  I found that the accommodation team were rather good in matching ppl up with flatmates from similar backgrounds (in my/ my mates cases anyways) so even if you don’t get your first choice of accommodation it’s likely you’ll be with like-minded ppl. I don’t know the prices of the places but the best ones are deffo Cityside and Central Village, they’re a few mins to campus and have a kind of ‘hotel’ vibe, I thought. Devonshire is very nice but full of posh southerners. I’ve stayed in James Bailie and there’s always a party going on/quite loud and has a drug culture if that’s ur thing. North Hill Court is way more chilled/quiet than JB and have huge rooms and small kitchens. Montague Burton has double beds and short walk to uni, my mate there loved it so much. My mates were in Sentinel Towers and it had a great vibe there and was really nice accommodation. Honestly all of them are good socially as you’re in Leeds, I’d deffo go for CitySide if money is no problem, we always had pres at cityside as the kitchen is great for socialising and it’s close to town. The only one I wouldn’t recommend is Liberty Dock as it’s so far out. Hope you have a good time at Leeds!

Ahh I don’t think I’ve been inside, however it’s a great location (close to uni and to town) and they’ll be lots of students around going to and from uni, the area has a great uni vibe and good for shopping. I’m sure someone that has stayed here will be able to give a much better description than this sorry!

Thank you, would you mind telling me how the application process works? Do you just pick one accommodation and they give you what they think is best for you?

Also, James Bailie seems quite far from the uni, how is it with the transport and everything?

Yeah you get to pick one on the application form and they’ll ask you if you have preferences like no-alcohol only, vegan/vegetarian, same-sex only or other factors based on religion (I think anyways, it’s been a few years since I did this haha). Then there’s a box to make any other comments so if there’s any deal-breakers I’d put this here (such as ‘not liberty dock’ or Tbh I asked for a nice view and got one:colondollar:). Not everyone will get their first choice (I didn’t) but ended up with like-minded ppl:smile:

It’s not as far from uni as it looks, it’s about a 20/25min walk depending how fit/tall you are and where you’re based on campus. It’s a nice walk, you head down to the main road and then cut across through WoodHouse Moor Park and enter the uni on University Rd (loads of students will be walking too). And the bus service is actually great, they show up regularly and there’s four buses you can get to and from uni/town centre, 1, 6, 27 and 28 and get the First Bus app for a cheaper fare, it was £1.20 for a student single (they don’t do student returns so buy two singles). Tbh I got the bus way more than most students, they’re slow and full if you have a 9am (so id always walk for those) but other times of the day it’s fine:smile:

I'm quite certain I will choose The Tannery, however I am still looking at the other accommodations just to be sure it wil be a good decision to do so. Thank you for your help
