1) What A Levels are you taking from September (or other eligible qualifications)?
Bio, Chem, English (the odd one out of my combination:tongue:) + EPQ

2) What course at Cambridge do you have your eyes on? And why?
It will probabely be NatSci, as it goes over a broad range of science from which I can then chose what to 'specialise' in later on.

3) What grades did you get at GCSE? Are you retaking any?
9998888776 + A*

4) Why Cambridge specifically? and why not Oxford?
In Oxford, I would have to chose one science, and dedicate myself to that, unlike Cambridge.

5) Which admissions tests do you have to sit, and when will you start preparing for them?
NSAA - I am not too sure when to start, but I am aware that it is sat in November.

6) What have you done in lockdown to help your studies and potentially your application to Cambridge?
I tutored someone in geography and science? I did a MOOC in creativity & innovation, which had a focus on science.

7) What do you want to do with your degree from Cambridge?
I would probably celebrate first that I got a degree? I seriously didn't think that far ahead:biggrin:

8) Have you decided which college you're applying to?
No, I haven't got my heart set on one college.

The flexibility is the reason people like Natsci. I can see the attraction.

I should mention... I’m British but I live overseas - therefore I do AS levels. I’ve been told I need to get a 90 UMS average in my AS Levels to be eligible. Can anybody shine some light on that?

I did a virtual internship by InvestIN education, which had a virtual ward round and GP consultation. I also did the BSMS virtual work experience, which was a bit like an online course. There is an online magazine which I write for about topics like antibiotic resistance, covid-19, cloning, etc.

Just wanted to ask: although I have my eyes set on Cambridge, I was wondering if it would be better applying to Oxford, considering my high GCSE grades. Obviously Oxford have a much higher weighting on GCSEs. Would it be a waste if I applied to Cambridge instead?

Even with those GCSEs, your chances would likely still be higher at Cambridge. Oxford gets a LOT more applicants per offer - more than double in fact. If you prefer Cambridge, I'd definitely choose there.

You are eligible to apply with less than 90 UMS! The higher your UMS are, the more competitive your application will be, though. We don't get that many applicants with AS UMS any more (they don't exist in England now) so they will be less important as a point of comparison between applicants than they used to be, but strong UMS will always help an application.

@Greyflame15, what is that Magazine called?

Hello!
1) What A Levels are you taking from September (or other eligible qualifications)?
English Literature, History, Economics + EPQ
2) What course at Cambridge do you have your eyes on? And why?
I want to read law, I find it fascinating and I know how intellectually demanding and challenging it will be. It encompasses lots of aspects from different disciplines which I really like.
3) What grades did you get at GCSE? Are you retaking any?
999999997 (no retakes! 7 in maths)
4) Why Cambridge specifically? and why not Oxford?
I think i'm better suited to the Cambridge exam system, the Cambridge law degree is slightly broader than Oxford and I felt more comfortable when I went to the virtual Open Day then I did with the Oxford one.
5) Which admissions tests do you have to sit, and when will you start preparing for them?
The CLT which is basically the essay part of the LNAT. I intend to start gentle LNAT prep next week to practise that. I'll probably start specific CLT Prep early next year.
6) What have you done in lockdown to help your studies and potentially your application to Cambridge?
-I've been on 2 corporate virtual work experience schemes helping me understand about policies and regulations surrounding businesses
-I've completed 2 Harvard Law Based MOOC's
-I have started reading through the recommended reading and listening to podcasts
-I entered a Law essay comp and was shortlisted
-I was an online student mentor for History
7) What do you want to do with your degree from Cambridge?
The dream is to become an international human rights barrister!
8) Have you decided which college you're applying to?

Homerton- lovely friendly vibe!

You sound very organised!

Here's the law chapter of Cambridge demystified...

But the only issue with that is that I know that even an AS in maths will be an Achilles heel in my application, compared with anything else.

Obvs not impossible to get in with two sciences and English but you will be less competitive without an AS in maths or physics; just want to point that out though I get the sense you understand that already (not trying to patronise or anything, merely help!).

thank you  I read it yesterday and found it especially helpful, as well as reading Oxford Demystified too. Thank you so much for doing it all.

Yeah, Pembroke had one of the lowest offer rates for engineering this year with 12%! On this website it says that Emmanuel and Pembroke (both are my "shortlisted" colleges) had 11 and 7 Pool Offers by Other Colleges respectively: https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/apply/statistics
Does this mean that 11 of the 147 applicants got offers by other colleges and that 19 were still made directly by Emmanuel?
Also, would you say that e.g. Trinity as one of the most known colleges gets many of the strongest applicants? The offer rate seems to always be high and I was wondering if that is because it is so big and has such good applicants. Trinity is another of my shortlisted colleges but I might steer away due to how huge it is and a few other factors.

Your reading of the graph is right. 147 applied to Emma for Engineering of whom 19 had direct offers and a further 11 were made offers from other colleges via the winter pool.
1) What A-Levels are you taking from September (or other eligible qualifications)?

Maths, Economics, Physics, Further Maths and/or EPQ

2) What course at Cambridge do you have your eyes on? And why?

Economics, I have always been interested in the topic and want to pursue a career there.

3) What grades did you get at GCSE? Are you retaking any?

998877775D* No retakes

4) Why Cambridge specifically? and why not Oxford?

Oxford do not offer Economics as a stand-alone subject, and partly because Cambridge values GCSEs less and my results were not 'amazing' by Oxford's standards.

5) Which admissions tests do you have to sit, and when will you start preparing for them?

Pre Interview assessment and perhaps an ECAA/EAT but I'm not entirely sure.

6) What have you done in lockdown to help your studies and potentially your application to Cambridge?

Done a lot of research on Cambridge colleges and the courses they offer

7) What do you want to do with your degree from Cambridge?

Get a great job in the finance/economics industry

8) Have you decided which college you're applying to?

So far St Catharines is my favourite so far due to their great sports facilities and one of the cheaper colleges in terms of living costs.

Almost certainly isn't 😜
How do you all think we’ll be affected by people having to defer to 2021? (If at all)

I’ve been thinking about that... hopefully it won’t impact us too much but it’s definitely something I’m nervous about

Students defer entry after being accepted right? If so then we can just hope that the situation will clear up until next spring/summer when 2021 students confirm their choice. However, I don't think it will affect us as much as people applying this year and we can't change what will happen so it's best to focus on our applications anyways.

Some students defer every year. It's possible a few more may defer (or be encouraged to defer) in 2021 than usual but it's unlikely to be a huge number, so I doubt 2022 will be significantly impacted.

That’s encouraging. I know it’s slightly callous to just think about my year with regards to this whole situation but can you blame me?
