Hi there,
First of all congratulations on getting into university!

As a university student just finishing my second year of university I found the best way to meet people outside of your course and accommodation is to get involved in as many clubs and societies as you can!

Clubs often hold mixers ran by older students where freshers can meet each other at events.

I hope this helps,

So you can get on social media sites and look for groups of people who are freshers for this year. There will be ones who will be staying at home as well if you ask around. There will also be groups that sprout from that group into subjects based, halls based etc. So what ever your subject is say physics, you can ask if theres a physics group chat you can join, or perhaps they add you to. Then your speaking to your course mates on line and get to know them more. Then there is the societies too you can join as well. Make sure you have a plan for second year accommodation, be it halls, private halls, studio etc. Not everyone has a group they want to move into, so if thats the case, have that plan in place. But if you have a group of friends you all want to move into together, then happy days  I personally think everyone should have that plan any way for second year. Even people in halls dont always get along and gel with their flat mates.
Why would anyone want to make friends in university? What is the point in just randomly meeting people?

Hey!

It's completely normal to feel this way, but you find you soon settle into university life and realise that everyone's in the exact same boat as you are. I'd definitely recommend joining clubs and societies, that way you are around people with similar interests so it makes it easier to talk to them! You could also get involved with becoming a student ambassador, volunteering opportunities, getting a part-time job on campus - they're all great ways to meet new people!

I wish you the very best of luck with university and I'm sure you'll make some great friends

Congratulations on securing your place!
University is such an exciting journey, it's understandable that you have some concerns but try to remember that everyone else is in the same situation. Look into whether there are any Facebook fresher groups you can join to find your coursemates and once you have started your course, perhaps organise a regular study group so you connect with your course mates outside of lessons.
Immerse yourself in all the activities Freshers/Welcome Week has to offer and join clubs/societies to you to find friends with similar interests.
You'll naturally find friends as you begin your university journey but if you need any extra help, many Student Unions offer buddy schemes too.
Best of luck
