It is a mood disorder. In my case I can go a long period of time feeling happy and I feel so hyperactive and it is crazy, and then I fall into a deep depression for no reason. I have multiple mood swings and I don't feel in control. I take treatment and antidepressants.
Don’t mean it rudely but how do they know it’s bipolar disorder?
Don’t most children/teens, even adults tbh, experience mood swings?
Yes, yes I see your point But being bipolar is much more serious and it runs in my family. I can't really explain what it feels like because this seems normal to me, but it's also a very tough mental illness to live with. A lot of testing as involved in order for me to get diagnosed.
Not sure what you mean, without treatment my health would be worse
I mean that some treatments for bipolar can be really restrictive. There's the potential that if you were transferred to the care of another doctor that you could be prescribed really strong medications.
Not only that, but a bipolar diagnosis can be used to section you later in life. It isn't the end of the world, but giving someone so young such a diagnosis has serious consequences, even if they have a family history.
Yes I've had some episodes but it seems so real. That might be the worst part about this disorder because people think I am crazy all the time.
Have you been prescribed any anti-psychotics? If so, what do you take?
What was the process of getting your final diagnosis? I’ve got a working diagnosis of bipolar but my psychiatrist hasn’t given me a formal diagnosis yet.
