XR Blockade newspaper printing works

https://news.sky.com/story/extinction-rebellion-blockade-newspaper-printing-works-in-england-and-scotland-12064057

XR have blockaded newspaper printing works in England and Scotland, In Hertfordshire 13 have been arrested and lorries did not leave the site until 6am this morning.

The newsprinters (which was the one blockaded) prints Rupert Murdoch owned titles including the Sun, The Times (Both sunday editions of those papers), the Daily Telegrpah and Daily Mail and Evening Standard are also printed at those locations

A spokesperson said:
"Overnight printing at two Newsprinters plants was disrupted by activity by Extinction Rebellion. Thanks to other industry partners, printing was transferred to other sites.
"We apologise sincerely to any readers of The Sun, The Times, the Daily Mail, the Daily Telegraph and the Financial Times who may be unable to buy their usual newspaper this morning due to late deliveries

"Our teams are working to get newspapers delivered to retailers as soon as possible this morning.
"This attack on all of the free press impacted many workers going about their jobs. Overnight print workers, delivery drivers, wholesale workers and retail newsagents have faced delays and financial penalty."

XR claim the media is controlled by a small number of people and news corporations are guilty of "Consistent manipulation of the truth to suit their own personal and political agendas"

whilst you can disagree with the papers being blocked etc, I think this sends a very bad message out.

Get Murdoch farted on.
And here I was thinking XR were a bunch of radlibs who wouldn't actually take any meaningful action. Well played by them.
Wonderful. Perhaps this nationally organised socialist movement can set up a ministry to produce propaganda for the purpose of public enlightenment and attack the Lügenpre- oops, lying press.

It's the same authoritarian shite, just in a green new bucket.

same faeces, different shovel :yep:
People realise that XR aren't socialist and have actively disavowed socialism just this week - hence why they're scorned by the left as mostly pointless radlibs who aren't prepared to come up with the actual answers needed to avert the climate apocalypse - right? https://www.jacobinmag.com/2020/09/extinction-rebellion-socialism-capitalism

XR may have disavowed socialism, but:
1) the SWP told its members to join XR and lots of XR members are socialists or fellow travellers.
2) members of XR carried a banner with a hammer and sickle on it at one of their protests.

More to the point, Nigel Farage has disavowed fascism and yet you have called him a fascist. Is there one rule for XR and another for right wingers?

The SWP enter everything and mostly despised by the left wing at large, they're in no way representative of anything.

More that Farage is actively fascist in his politics while XRs politics are not necessarily socialist. Some members are, disturbingly some members are ecofash, promoting crap like population controls, a number are obviously cops who've infiltrated and the rest are middle class liberals who refuse to recognise that capitalism requires the destruction of everything and climate change cannot be averted under the current structure. They should be socialist, they should purge the **** out of the ecofash, but they aren't and haven't.

As if we currently live in a democracy? As big a lie as the claim we've got a free press when the gamut runs from centre right (guardian) to far right (mail) and is mostly owned by a couple of billionaires pumping out propaganda for their own gains.

Seriously? Look at Russia and China, where you get disappeared or poisoned for saying the wrong thing, and tell me again we don't have democracy.
I support a free press but that includes freedom from the monopoly power of a cadaverous lich and his deranged son.

It's very possible for multiple countries to not have a democracy, and when the billionaires that control the press, particularly Murdoch, have picked every single PM for decades, poisoning public discourse with their propaganda from our completely unfree press to ensure their own interests are the only ones represented. We don't have a democracy, ours is long dead

Newspapers haven't been the sole source of media for quite some time now. Even if all the press had a single agenda, alternative views are available throughout social media and the internet. Gone are the times where the press held the keys to public opinion.

It doesn't make sense that 'Murdoch' had picked every PM for decades. There have been dramatic shifts in policy between governments; if they were picked as you say then you'd expect more similarities between them.

It's understandable to think that media influences the population, it absolutely does, but to think Murdoch picks every PM because he owns some of the traditional media is certainly not enough to make a persuasive argument.
If you can shut down a good chunk of free press by blockading only one printers owned by one person is the press really free?

I did enjoy the statement from the Tories extolling the importance of free press while being guilty of blocking free press from their own events such banning The Mirror from their battlebus and blocking certain journalists from their Downing Street press briefings.
