particularly Murdoch, have picked every single PM for decades

I would be fascinated to see the evidence for this crazy conspiracy theory, you are starting to sound like the US election trolls plaguing this forum.

As if we currently live in a democracy? As big a lie as the claim we've got a free press when the gamut runs from centre right (guardian) to far right (mail) and is mostly owned by a couple of billionaires pumping out propaganda for their own gains.

I think your political spectrum needs to be recalibrated if you think The Guardian is centre right and The Daily Mail is far right. By that measure Bernie Sanders is probably centrist and Leon Trotsky barely left of centre.

The SWP enter everything and mostly despised by the left wing at large, they're in no way representative of anything.

More that Farage is actively fascist in his politics while XRs politics are not necessarily socialist. Some members are, disturbingly some members are ecofash, promoting crap like population controls, a number are obviously cops who've infiltrated and the rest are middle class liberals who refuse to recognise that capitalism requires the destruction of everything and climate change cannot be averted under the current structure. They should be socialist, they should purge the **** out of the ecofash, but they aren't and haven't.

By your own ”10 Nazis and one moderate at the same table = 11 Nazis” standard, surely Extinction Rebellion are a socialist group because they refuse to kick SWP entryists out?

I know the SWP are hated by the rest of the Left and for very good reason, but the fact of the matter is that a sizable amount of XR members are SWP members or fellow travellers.

Farage hasn't adopted any fascist policies. No, displaying a poster that looks a bit like a Nazi poster doesn't make you a Nazi - Reductio ad Hitlerum is a fallacy.

There's a difference between environmentalist authoritarians and outright fascists, and unless your ”ecofascists” are ultranationalists who support the idea of ”everything in the state, nothing against the State, nothing outside the state” they're probably not fascists.

Given that you call the Spectator far-right for printing a column by Taki who has declared his support for Golden Dawn, surely you admit that by your own standard the Guardian is a communist paper because it prints articles by Aaron Bastani and Ash Sarkar who have both declared their support for communism?

More to the point, I'm surprised to discover you don't consider the Mirror (which has supported Labour for some time) or the Morning Star to be part of the British press.

If you can shut down a good chunk of free press by blockading only one printers owned by one person is the press really free?

I did enjoy the statement from the Tories extolling the importance of free press while being guilty of blocking free press from their own events such banning The Mirror from their battlebus and blocking certain journalists from their Downing Street press briefings.

There is a difference between not allowing leftist fish and chip wrapper producers like the Mirror to come to your briefings for the purpose of writing horrifically biased takes and blocking right wing newspapers from distributing copies of their paper.

By that measure Bernie Sanders is probably centrist

If you define ”leftist” as ”supports my particular flavour of anarchism” which I think SLF is doing here, then Sanders and the Squad are centrists given that their philosophies require a strong state (good luck politely asking people to pay a carbon tax) and they aren't opposed to private ownership of the means of production.

There is a difference however the Tories are no supporter of the free press. Blocking journalists from briefings because you don't like being criticised is not the way to run a healthy democracy.

Were they banned from Tory party briefings or Government briefings?

Government briefings at 10 Downing Street.

Surely it's his right to choose who gets to attend his briefings? Do you think that if, say, a conspiracy theorist blog asks to attend government briefings that they should be given the right to do so because they're reporters?

It is not the right of the Government to ban certain journalists who have passed security clearance from Government briefings.

If the conspiracy theorist gains security clearance I see no reason why they should not be allowed to attend the briefing.
