Why can x ( less than or equal to) 0 and 3 < x not be combined into a single inequality?

x \leq 0 means x can take values like 0 , -1 , -2, .... and so on.

3 &lt; x means that x can take on values like 4 , 5, 6, ... and so on.

These are two intervals which go off into two different directions without ever overlapping. You cannot combine them into a single inequality like 0 \leq x &lt; 3 because this describes different values.

Thanks! In my book it says: because if we simplify 0 (greater than or equal to) x <3 we get 0 ( greater than or equal to) 3
Can u please explain how we get that?

Well, if 3 &lt; x and x \leq 0 then you can imagine joining them up and saying that

3 &lt; x \leq 0

but of course this is an issue, because it tells us that 3&lt;0 which is not true, therefore we cannot write this inequality.

Can you upload an image from your book because that assertion doesn't really make a lot of sense
