what to do at uni

Hi. I dont know what to do at uni so i am considering taking a gap year to figure out what i want to do any help is appreciated. I got 8 9s and an 8 at gcse and an A at AS further maths which I dropped at the end of year 12. I do chemistry, maths and physics and im predicted A*A*A*. I know I want to do something STEM related but idk what. I enjoy science and maths but idk what to do. Thanks
I assume you don't want to do medecine or dentistry since the early deadline is around this time.
Couldn't you just pursue a subject you're currently studying and see where it takes you? With those incredible grades you could get into almost all universities so you have so many options.

Have a look at the courses you can do with your a level subjects and then see which one sounds most appealing to you

I am also in year 13 and am taking a level physics and maths but im not doing so well in them
do you have any tips - especially for physics?
Take a gap year and see if you can get a job in something related and then decide if going to university is actually worth the time and money for you.

I am thinking maybe I will just do engineering as it seems like a safe bet. Thanks :smile:

thanks for the help. and as for physics i would say just pay attention in lessons and ask questions if you're stuck. i dont really do much tbh i just turn up to lessons and try my best

Your reasoning seems a bit rushed. Are you still taking a year out?
Theoretical physics? Even if you dropped further maths.

Medicine? You have chemistry, just do a year of work experience or voluntary work.

Chemical engineering? You have the subjects and the grades and it’s pretty well paid if you get there in the end?

Something to do with finance or even straight economics? I’m sure most economics programmes would accept you.

yes i am applying this year cos i may aswell and deferring as i want a gap year. if i know what i want to do next year then i can just reject the offers or if i think i want to do engineering then i can accept one. also i enjoy science and maths and i feel like you cant go wrong with a general engineering degree

If it takes 4 years, costs money, involves a lot of time and effort and you don't look too far into what it's about, then I think you can go wrong with a general engineering degree.
Maybe that's not the case, maybe it'll be the best decision you've ever made, but just take your time ok?

ik but i feel like there will be something on i enjoy on the course that i could specialise in. plus i have a year to decide

You should have a look at the modules you learn and see what interests you there
then you can look into a specific topic further and talk about it in your personal statement

that way you're not waiting until you're on the course to see what you would enjoy

Where are you looking to apply for a general engineering degree? I also in the same predicament as you and really think that general engineering sounds like a good idea but i'm not really sure what universities offer it.

im applying to oxford, imperial (aeronautical as they dont offer general), bristol, durham and sheffield wbu
