Hi, I previously suffered from depression from the ages of 15 to about 17, went to therapy, and was on medication. I'm not entirely sure what caused it.
But this time, I am going through a pretty hard time with someone, it's a very complicated situation but I am getting very similar symptoms that I had when I was younger. I have started to isolate myself from my housemates simply because I don't have the energy to socialise, I struggle to get out of bed, am sleeping excessively, lost my appetite, etc etc.

But I don't know whether it's just me going through getting my heart broken, or whether something like this can actually trigger depression? I only wonder as I've suffered with it before

Thanks for any help

A lot of things can trigger a person's depression, and those symptoms definitely do sound like those of depression. You can definitely get depression from going through a break-up or even just a difficult time during a relationship. Some people just get depression out of the blue for, seemingly, no apparent reason. I hope you can seek help to get better, or figure things out to make your situation a little happier. Best of luck out there, and never be afraid to reach out to people when you're struggling.
