What is considered a valid student ID

To get a lot of student discounts you have to give a valid student ID, but I have never received anything like that. The closest I have is a card that goes in a lanyard it says my name, my picture, and the school name simply for safety purposes at school. Would Boots accept this?

That thing was good enough for me to get a student ticket in a cinema so... probably!
