It depends on your requirements, lifestyle and how you are planning to use the laptop.
Personally I'd go for the ASUS X509 15.6in Celeron 8GB 1TB Laptop Bundle.

Going to use it for work including using alpine/debian on oracle virtual box. Would you still go for it for this use?

Yes.
I would be using for work and appreciate the ASUS for: reasonable hardware & software capabilities, easy to transport, quick recharge when battery use is necessary, good price and a reliable brand.

99% ssd 240gb+ pref 512+. Night and day.
Only reason to go hdd is simply if you dont have enough money or need the storage.
SSD are so cheap these days and once used you will never go back for a boot disk.

Acer has:
- quad core
- SSD
- Penteron
which the ASUS don't. The SSD makes a BIG difference to the overall speed, so I'd go for the Acer despite what londonmyst says

ssd is much faster tbh I wouldnt buy either and see what comes out on Blackfriday. Good applemac cloes are the Huawei matebooks for c £500. Those two are a bit underpowered for me.

I'd say defo go for the 2nd one, the Acer Aspire 3 because its got a SSD for a start, if you want more space like 1TB or even more just buy an SSD and fit it into the laptop and reinstall windows. Also the Pentium has 4 cores and is just a better CPU tbh, it will help u out if ur planning to visualise systems on that machine

The Acer is the substantially better laptop. Quad core rather than dual core processor, and a faster SSD over the slow mechanical hard drive.
But it's going to be the same thing I tell you every thread. I wouldn't be recommending a Celeron or Pentium grade processor for VirtualBox and running VMs.

hiiii again i was waiting for your response haha, its STILL not in stock so im p much giving up on the idea of it anyway...gonna give it a few more weeks then back to the drawing board probs!
If you can only have one, then it's an SSD any day of the week unless you absolutely need more internal storage than your budget allows.
