apprenticeship vs intership?

What's the difference?

What's the difference?

An apprenticeship isn’t necessarily a contract of employment, but a contract of training. There are specific requirement set to both the apprentice and the employer to ensure a pre determined level of competence is met. This is governed by employer chosen modules and evidenced by academic study, and work based project evidence.

An internship may not provide training and is not necessarily contracted to provide it. Some on site training is expected, as would be expected for any new starter, but the formality is controlled by the employer and not external framework. The employer may expect some relevant experience for entry level.

An intern may be expected to fill a role to fulfil a business need at the interns current level. An apprentice may be expected to support and learn from senior staff in fulfilling high level business needs until competence Is obtained for them to fulfil the role themselves.

Reply is based on my own experience as an apprentice working alongside student placements and graduate placements.

Hope this helps.
