Cambridge Economics Applicants 2021

Hi everyone!

I saw a similar thread started by @Daiana_Ash for Cambridge HSPS Applicants 2021, and thought that it would be a good idea to start one for Economics Applicants - I'm sorry if one already exists, if so, let me know & I'll close this thread! As there are multiple threads that are full of good discussion for other Cambridge courses, I figured an Economics one would be useful to have a space to ask questions, give tips, and support each other through tough times.

Questions adapted from the other threads:

1)What A-levels are you taking and what grades are you predicted?
2)GCSE Grades?
3)Why Cambridge for Economics?
4)Which college(s) are you looking at?
5)Besides Cambridge, what other universities are you thinking of applying?
6) How are you preparing for your ECAA?
7)What are you currently doing (academically especially) to make your application stronger?

Best of luck with your application! Out of curiosity, have you received an offer from St Andrews yet? I heard that they've given out some E&M offers already, so was wondering whether this applied to pure Econ as well?

Ah Fitz is a great college - amazing A Level predictions btw! We do the same subjects haha & seem to have applied to 4-out-of-5 of the same universities.. Best of luck with your application; if all goes well, we might end up being at the same uni  x
How are you guys preparing for the ECAA?

Honestly, I've got no idea. Like I don't intend to sweat about the essay bit too much as they provide a text, so even if you have no idea what to write about, I'm sure that you can pick out some relevant points from the text & build on them - that's what I'm hoping anyway lmao. But for the mathematics, I'm worried; I found the Specimen Paper quite challenging & tbh, I'm quite bummed that they removed the Problem Solving part of the paper as that was the part of the ECAA that I was the most confident in!

Thanks, same for you! No, I haven't received any update from St Andrews other than a confirmation but hopefully will hear back soon

Ayy we've literally applied to the exact same universities xD
How did you guys find the ECAA? For me, I found the 'Mathematics' section went really well. The 'Advanced Maths' section did not go nearly as well, I did much fewer questions. The essay didn't go great either, I just felt I was relying on points from the extract too much.
Was a guessing game.
Definetely harder than most the past papers but ye for sure advanced maths was harder. Guess we’ll just have to see. How’re you all feeling about it tho?

Hi, I also felt like the Advanced Maths section was a guessing game. Maths was better. I didn't use the extract much though because of the phrasing of the first bullet point question. And I cracked under the pressure I feel.
same, tried to take shortcuts which just cost me more time and I kinda misjudged the essay. most people will get an interview but I'm not sure how important the tests are afterwards.
