The Student Room Group

(for trans students) what are your experiences being transgender at your uni/area?

I'm applying to uni and I obviously don't want to be attending a uni or live in an area where I'll be in danger or without adequate support/protection

please include the uni you attend or the city it's in, if you'd like to add that kind of course you're doing that'd be helpful as well!
are you safe/do you feel safe? are students accepting/supportive? are your lecturers/tutors/mentors? are there groups or anything for trans people? when out of uni how are strangers? have you ever been attacked or harassed for being trans? did you stay in student accommodation and how did cis students react to this? or anything else you feel it's worth adding
Good morning!

Please see some information from the University of South Wales. Our university is very experienced with supporting our transgender students at USW, our link to the support we offer at our university is on the first link below (all universities should have similar support in place) . I hope this information is useful and you receive the reassurance you require. I'm here if I can help you more. Rebecca

Hi!

The University is extremely supportive for the LGBTQ community. Societies have wellbeing teams to support everybody and we host pride celebrations. So far in my course and university experience as whole I have found everybody accepting and supportive towards those who are transgender. When it comes to student accommodation if you have any worries or concerns there's a RES life team for each accommodation. There's a separate student wellbeing service too. The Union have a whole team who are there to support students and sort any issues. I'll attach a link to this for you to explore, as there is so much available.

I hope this helps and reassures you!

Thank you for your reply and the links. It was really reassuring to see something on a transgender student at your uni and how well he's doing there as well
