physics weight question

eg a mirror is hung symmetrically from nail fixed to a wall

why is it that the weight acts though the centre of the frame and not on the nail?

Weight always acts through the centre of mass of an object which in this case is the centre of the frame the point of hanging has no bearing on where the force acts

The force is transferred from the painting to the nail through the tension in the strings it is hung by. So, the this exerts a force on the nail which then exerts that force on the wall
