I've just read somewhere that 'UK dental schools except Leeds will train you to qualify with a BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery). At Leeds dental school, students qualify as a MAster and Bachelor of Dental Surgery.'
So in the end will I still be able to qualify as a dentist?

Hi! Yes at the end we get the BDS plus a masters qualifications. Also, we get a bachelors in oral health science.

I'm applying for 2022 entry after retaking year 12. Which course are you applying for?

Hi!
I think it is better to not become affected by many forums cause there are challenges in every career we choose but I am sure that if you choose dentistry you will not regret it. The most important thing is to choose whatever makes you happy! My personal reasons for choosing dentistry are:
1. It is a very rewarding career since you develop a more long-term relationship with your patients and also you don't have as high responsibility as doctors have.
2. You don't have to work in a hospital environment or pass the hectic environment of the foundation year posts that have lots of irregular hours with night shifts. With dentistry you will mostly have a 9-5 job and also you can choose to opt for part-time.
3. Once you complete the 5 year course (with leeds we get the advantage of graduating with a MSc!) you can immediately start working without the need to specialise like in the case of medicine. Also, a junior dentist earns at the end much higher than a GP.
4. Overall in dentistry I believe the workload is definitely manageable and there is no need to develop lots of psychological stress like in the case of medicine where you can face the possibility of patient death and the stressful hospital environment.
I believe that dentistry is a wonderful career to pursue! How much work experience did you do so far?
