I’ve heard lancaster is quite good for maths? - i applied for maths this year but didn’t choose it as one of my choices tho because there isn’t much pure maths in the content, but you could have a look and see if it’s for you!

You’re a star! Thank you so much. Did you apply for maths and if so what unis. I got a Warwick offer which is A*A*A which is lower than typical requirements! And I saw that Bath’s requirements are lower to A*AB which is perfect. I’m debating between getting an AAA and ABB uni or should I put another A*A*A uni in case Oxford isn’t an option anymore? So many decisions

Yeah i don’t mind applied but i love pure maths so i definitely wanted a course that had an option to do either! I applied to Bristol, KCL, Glasgow, Sheffield and Keele (don’t really like keele and wouldn’t want to go there now that i’ve thought about it😂). My predicted grades are AAB, if i was smart enough i would’ve definitely applied to imperial and warwick!

If you’re wondering what grade requirements they have:
Bristol - AAB (contextual) but normally i think it’s A*AA? , if i get an offer this will 100% be my firm choice because i love everything about the course and Bristol look nice in general
KCL - A*AB/AAA, i don’t think their maths department is amazing but i really liked the uni when i visited it last year!
Glasgow - AAB but they consider anyone with BBB
Sheffield - ABB
Keele - i think it’s something like 112 UCAS points

A couple of options are Cardiff, East Anglia, Exeter and Liverpool.

What about Leeds?

Ah I see! That’s a shame but I hope you get into Bristol! How was the Bristol course? I feel like Bristol is known for its sciences if I’m correct?

The Bristol course just seems to have a lot of modules to choose from - maybe this is the same with all universities but i really like that there’s a choice to do a research project in your third year. Yes! Bristol is defo known for the sciences and the research quality but also the maths department is apparantely quite high in rankings - i’m guessing that’s quite important when choosing the uni to apply to!

You need to decide what is right for you. I went to an open day with my son years ago to Lancaster and was very impressed with the place. What I did learn is that at the time they werent offering Mechanics but were real specialists in Maths. You also had to take 3 subjects in your first year. Maths, Stats and your choice. This was unusual as most others concentrated on Maths without options. You really need to ask yourself what kind of Maths are you interested in. If you want Mechanics then dont go to Lancaster. If you like Stats it is ideal. You also need to be asking do you want to be in a big or small city, campus or city university and how close or far away from home you want to be. There are so many suggestions but places like East Anglia and Cardiff are decent and offer lower grades. It all depends on what you want.

I've been looking at all of your choices and it looks like you've got a tough decision on your hands!

I'm a third year maths student at UoB so I'm a little biased, but I'd be happy to weigh in a little on this one (and maybe twist your arm a little ).
Personally I remember being in a very similar position when I was choosing a university, and found that it ended up being a large combination of factors which influenced me. I think the main factors are usually reputation, teaching quality, and how you feel there. It's harder this year because the opportunities for visiting are limited, but when this becomes an option I would definitely advise that. Have a look around on websites and online open days/websites and try to get a feel for what the values are/how students there feel. For me, I felt at home at Birmingham and everyone seemed very supportive and friendly which was very important to me. The reputation and quality of the course were important too, so Birmingham was ideal for me.

Different people have different opinions about what they like, and ultimately that's up to personal preference, but all of your options look brill anyway!
