Hello
@hebelizBoth
London College of Fashion and
Central Saint Martins are part of the
University of the Arts London (ranked top 2 in the world for Art and Design in the QS World Rankings in 2020). LCF is a specialist college which offers fashion design, fashion media and fashion business studies. CSM is more of an art school - so fashion sits alongside fine art, graphic design, architecture and so on. UAL has an incredibly high profile in fashion - graduates include Jimmy Choo, Alek Wek, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and more.
In terms of applying, there are differences between the UK and USA in terms of what they look for in portfolios. In the UK there is more emphasis on seeing the development and research as well as final pieces. In the USA they are usually more interested in final work - I can't say for sure if that's the case for FIT but it's something you will need to check.
UAL also does have some study abroad opportunities so you might also want to see if the course you're looking at has links with FIT. Alternatively, all the courses at LCF allow students to take an optional year out between years 2 and 3 to do an industry placement and this could potentially happen in New York if you can find something suitable.
I would really recommend visiting some of our
online open days to find out a bit more about what's on offer at UAL. You can also view our
Graduate Showcase to see work by our graduating students.
Best of luck in your decision making.
