What course to pick

I’ve always wanted to own like nightclubs and hotels etc and I applied to a few universities to study Events management all of which gave me a unconditional offer but Salford Uni have since discontinued the course after giving me the offer and I have had the choice to submit a new choice and I saw Business Management with Marketing and I’m not sure now if that’s a better degree and less of a niche so a safer bet also considering I’ve been working for a marketing agency for 2 years and what will be 5 years once the course is up as I will be working from home so I don’t know what to do essentially a lot of waffle but I need help

Cheers

Your degree helps to provide theory and project work which you can use on your CV to show employers that you have the necessary strengths and skills to work for a company. The two degrees sound similar and I think you would be fine with either.

The experience you already have at the marketing agency will also be extremely beneficial to a future role because it is useful relevant experience in the industry.

Hi @aarongratton,

I did a Business Management and Marketing degree at the University of Hull and would honestly really recommend it. I found the course to cover the general side of business which interested me including management, Business law, Ethics, Strategy, European and International Business. The degree also allowed me to follow my passion of marketing covering areas such as consumer behaviour and digital marketing.

What I really liked about studying Business Management and Marketing at Hull was the opportunities offered alongside the degree including placement year and study abroad so you can either get the opportunity to experience how the degree works in practice or study some additional modules almost anywhere in the world. There was also a lot of live projects where you were able to work businesses (both global and international) to help them solve the issues that they may be facing.

Overall, I found this was a really well rounded and enjoyable degree to study.

Best of luck,
Millie

Thanks for your help ! I also specialise in digital marketing now working with hundreds of brands from things like Nike to Domino’s etc so I was also wondering in terms of the marketing side do you think I’ll be learning what I already know as I do already have a marketing qualification ?

As well I was wondering what kind of work you can get into off the back of the degree because the main thing that gets my attention is how it can apply to every business rather then the niche of events incase that didn’t go well but then I also don’t want to try and get a job in events and get rejected because I don’t have the degree.

that’s the sort of issue that is playing in my head 😅

hope that made sense
thanks again for your response 👍🏻

Hi again @aarongratton,

I think if you scroll down on this page (https://www.hull.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/business-management-and-marketing-ba-hons) to course structure then you will be able to see the modules which are undertaken on the course which may provide you with a better perspective on whether it overlaps with your prior knowledge.

I have had a look on prospects (it only has business or marketing- so I went for marketing) and events is listed as a career where your degree would be useful: https://www.prospects.ac.uk/careers-advice/what-can-i-do-with-my-degree/marketing. I hope this provides you with some reassurance

Best of luck & Please just @ us if I can help any further.

Millie
