What is an EPQ as my college has not told us anything about it and I feel like I should start on it before everyone else is told

extended project qualification where you pick a question on any topic that you want. you have to complete 120hours of research, an essay (normally 5,000 words) and do a presentation

yk IKR my exact thought last year but like you get quite a lot of time to write it . but you could do an artefact (say for a drama/art/music related question) and then you would only have to write 2,500 words
Has your school confirmed that you’re doing it?

I did my EPQ 5,000 words sounds crazy but trust me you'll be able to do it. In the end mine was over 5,000 words. I've finished my essay and have only got my presentation to go so you can ask me any questions about it.

I think the presentation is the easy part of it all. Trust me I had to finish my EPQ during lockdown so a bit of a nightmare to find resources. My local uni was allowing schools to go in and use resources but once lockdown happened it was shut to schools and libraries were closed. So yes, the presentation is the easy part. :/

Only some schools do it, best check with yours before doing anything on it!

what do you do on the presentation

Basically answer your question but in a spoken form. I'm doing a powerpoint for mine. Then I have to present it in front of a few teachers and a few students. The teacher who grades your presentation will be watching to see how you perform and you have to take questions once you've presented your work. (This will be a year's worth of work to answer the question). The teachers who just come to watch may be subject specialists or know what you're talking about in some parts. Mine is on psoriasis and psychology so I talk about genetics and cell biology so I expect bio teachers to be there as well as psych teachers. Honestly the presentation is the least stressful part. The most stressful part is having to do that as well as your Alevels. I found the jump from gcse to AS kinda hard and I did epq at the same time. The jump from AS to A2 was bad but it was less stressful since I finished epq so I could concentrate more on my Alevels.
