Unis just out of London

I want to stay at home for uni but I also don’t want for it to feel like school!! So is there any universities just out of London, which you can travel to from London???
P.S I’m staying at home so I can save up enough money to do a year abroad during uni.

Any idea what course?

If you have access to google then you could use google maps to identify which ones fall within your unstated travelling parameters. Obviously depending which side you live will also make a big difference as to how easy they are to get to.
Roughly what part of London do you live in, how far are you willing to travel and what mode (driving, public transport)?

You’ve got places like Brunel and Royal Holloway that are ‘London’ but on the outskirts, or you can look at places like Uni of Surrey, Uni of Hertfordshire etc which aren’t necessarily a million miles out of London, although could be a fair distance dependent on the answer to the above questions!

How about Reading, Brunel, Royal Holloway and Kent.

Kent is about 40 minuets on the Train from Kings Cross
Herfordshire about half an hour
Royal Holloway
A bit further afield there is Reading and Bedford too

Hi!

I am currently a 2nd year Psychology Student at the University of Surrey. What course are you thinking of studying?

The university is about a 10 minute walk from Guildford train station and the train only takes about 35 minutes with only 2 or so stops. The train departs from Waterloo and I have found it relatively easy whenever I travel from Guildford to London.

If you want some more information about Surrey then feel free to ask questions and I can help you out

Hey @Nawal.ss,

It's a totally understandable situation. Reading has great links to London. It takes about 15 min on the bus to the train station from campus and then the train to Paddington is about 30 min. Quite a few people on my course do commute to London and they have been finding it really good.

Here you can see the different course we have on offer if you haven't decided yet!

We are also hosting campus tours on Saturday from 5th December.

Hope that's helpful for you and feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!😊

Hahaha kind of, I like the idea that i will meet new people but I’m kind of nervous.
I’ve got a question, how do you find the university of Surrey? And are the people there social or introverted?

It’s completely normal to feel nervous! And it’s understand me because you’re going into a situation that is unfamiliar to you. So don’t worry there will be so many other students feeling the same.

As everyone is in the same boat, trying to make friends etc, I found it relatively easy to make friends. I bonded with my housemates and also made friends with people in my course who was in my seminars or tutorial groups. There is also so many events you can attend or join clubs and societies in order to meet people. There is so many opportunities for you to socialise regardless of whether you’re an introvert or extrovert. Some people may be quite shy at first as they’re in a unnatural environment to what they’re used to, but I’ve found everyone to be very social and friendly with whoever I’m talking to.

I hope this helps!

Hello, I'm a student at Kent which I can say is fairly close to London, about an hour drive depending on what part of London your coming from and a 45 min journey by train. And just to let you know, one of my friends here at Kent who studied abroad last year mentioned to me that when you study at a university abroad, you only have to pay 15% of what you'd normally pay for your university fees. Hope this helps, good luck on your application!
