Your colleague is performing destructive testing on a sample of two ceramic fibre composites to calculate the ultimate tensile stress (UTS). Sample 1 has been in use for several years, and Sample 2 has just been freshly manufactured. Your results are shown in the table below:

Theoretical Value-210
a) The test shows that Sample 1 has clearly degraded, explain what has caused this and how this has occurred.
b) Sample 2 is also lower than the expected theoretical value, what factors may have contributed to the lower UTS
