I would like your help everyone!! I’m stuck on defining what personality types on obedience and Milgrams experiment? Can someone help me summaries the experiment too? I’m stuck sorry!!

Also is there any other good references to add to the obedience essay apart from Milgram to show extra research in my essay??

For some more detailed notes you can check out Bickman in the uniform section of this page, and Hofling here.

Essentially, Bickman showed that different uniforms would affect how people on the street responded to instructions. Hofling showed that we’re likely to obey authority figures even when it could be dangerous, as nurses were willing to administer an overdose of medication if doctors told them to.

I hope you don’t mind me posting this here but I find it an easier format than messages, and it might come in useful for someone else.

Essentially if you’ve been asked whether all good people may do bad things if instructed to, or whether it differs from person to person, then you might want to be thinking about resistance to social influence. Internal factors would refer to locus of control, and external would refer to social support. I could also send you some notes on this if you wanted but it might be more useful for you to have a look online as I was starting to write mine in a format that was most accessible to me.

In essence, social support refers to dissenting peers. As shown in variations of Asch’s line study and Milgram’s study, people are less subject to social influence if other people resist it first. Look into these and you’ll find something you can use properly. As for the locus of control, this refers to how influential somebody views their own choices as, in terms of how big a difference it will make. Someone with an internal locus of control believes they can make a real impact, eg. they’ll think that working hard and making good notes will lead to good results. Someone with an external locus of control believes that factors beyond their control play the biggest part, eg. the quality of teaching and their family circumstance determines their results. In either case, it could be strong or weak.
