Hi, I have applied to both Durham and Warwick but I may be regretting it. Basically, I am predicted A*AA in Geography, Maths an Economics but my GCSE grades are average. I got 4 7s, 4 6s and a 5. What are my chances?
A lot of unis don't take GCSEs into major consideration - perhaps try emailing them and enquiring as to if it might hamper your chances? Even just being proactive like that will almost always come off well and often the answer will be that it's fine. Good luck!

Those are still good GCSEs. Most universities don’t care about gcse grades usually only universities like Cambridge and Oxford and med/veterinary style courses look at GCSEs

Thanks for the reply. It’s just the ones who don’t get into Oxbridge will likely apply to Durham and Warwick and they probably have all A*s for GCSEs or somet

Yeah I get that but like if there’s loads of applicants would they look at them as Economics is quite competitive

from my experience with vet school which is extremely competitive and this may not necessarily apply to economics but as long as you meet the minimum your considered the final decisions are based on the interviews not grades. Basically my point is you have great grades and have high chances of getting in don’t stress about wether you will or not

You said you were looking for somewhere diverse on your other thread! Durham is certainly not ... and issues with student behaviour.

Yeah but like Durham/Warwick is good for economics so it could help me get a better job. Birmingham was an option in case I don’t get into one of these but I doubt I’ll receive an offer from Durham/Warwick so I wanted to make sure Birmingham was something to consider if u get me

Ah I get what you mean. I feel I will meet them but I just had doubts about the competition and how I would compare to them

You should look at Exeter then ... better for Econ than Durham or Warwick
Muttley, what are you talking about? You correctly state that Durham isnt diverse and has "issues with student behaviour"(probably all those dreadful children from private schools ),but then go on to say the op should look at Exeter...it would be hard to think of a less diverse university , Your knowledge of the relative merits of University Economics departments seems rather lacking as well, please point me in the direction of the evidence that Exeter is better for Economics than Warwick or Durham..Warwick is always top five,Durham top ten and Exeter top twenty..

Don't both of them require A*AA with the A* in Mathematics?
Guys I have 4A* and 7A at gcse as well as B in further Maths and A*A*A predicted in Econ math politics, also doing an EPQ my statement was pretty good and I have applied for Econ, politics and international studies
Will I have a chance of getting an offer, I am worried because I didn't do as well as I could have for my gcses

Pahaha what?? Ik this is a month old but it was lies even then. Especially Warwick, it’s top 5 for econ. Durham is probably top 10 and Exeter is like 15-20 I’d guess

You believe those?! None of the rankings are mathematically valid ...
I don’t go to any of the 3 so I’m not really bothered about defending it. By facts, I meant average entry grades, standard offer grades, offer rate and average salary. Those all go Warwick>=Durham>Exeter. Yh they specialise in maths but then again, no one would say Exeter specialise in econ so the fact that they don’t “specialise” in it doesn’t mean it’s not a good uni. All 3 are definitely respectable however

You realise that those measures are a VERY flawed way of comparing unis don't you?
What relevant is the course and how well their graduates do - and I don't mean how much they earn because that relies on honesty!
