Good choice of Nottingham!

I was in Florence Boot Hall last year. I found it very sociable in that you could sit with and talk to lots of different people at meal times and everyone was very friendly during freshers and talked to people from all over the hall - I think this was the case in other halls too (feel free to correct me if im wrong) but it might be slightly different in halls that are arranged into blocks (e.g. Hugh Stu and others) as then there is a little preformed group that you can get to know?

It also had good communal space (4 separate rooms that you could watch a film in or study or play a board game or have prees in - JCR, living room, library and retired bar (they didnt open it but you could use the room)). I liked the location of the hall too, near to the lake and a quick walk to Portland (SU building where lots of events happen and food shops are). Throughout the year I was able to make friends from other halls via my course and societies but I found that it was harder to meet people inside my hall because unless there was something organised in your friendship group, people generally remained in their rooms rather than congregating in communal spaces. (societies and sports were then a good way to socialise for me)

I wansn't living in any of the other halls so I can't comment on how sociable they were but I didn't hear of any that were particularly good/bad - maybe think about how close you want to be to your lectures or to the shops or green space etc.?

One other thing to remember is you will probably be applying to a block/area of campus which includes a few halls, rather than to a specific hall so if you like that area then they will assign you to one of those halls (i think Cripps and Hugh Stu are in the same one so thats a bonus). TBH though all of the halls are pretty good so if you like that area of campus then that seems like a good block to apply for

Thank you so much that's really helpful!! I think I'm currently thinking either cripps or hugh stewart as from what I can tell they seem pretty well regarded but I'm not quite decided yet

I've also firmed Nottingham and am deciding between Cripps or Hugh Stewart. Which one did you go for?

i’m probs gonna go for cripps as it works out cheaper bc you can do the 31 week one at cripps however if there’s like a back up option i’ll definitely be putting hugh stewart, wbu?

Leaning towards Hugh Stewart but I'm still undecided. The thing about the 31-week contract that puts me off is that most halls seem to be 39-week contracts so must be annoying to have to leave the uni if there's still stuff going on that you want to go to?
