Honest opinions of St Peters Court - University of Nottingham

Hey let me provide you with some information, I'm staying at SPC for first year and it's very social and diverse, despite the location there's a free hopper bus which comes which takes you to the main campuses in Notts (Jubilee, QMC, and UP), the location isn't a big issue anyway as a large amount of people choose SPC for the social life

There are two buildings in SPC, one called Old Block and the other New Block, I'm in New Block and there's usually 5 per flat however if you're in Old Block then there's around 7, Old Block is the more social block, the kitchens/living areas are larger than the ones in New Block

I would definitely recommend SPC to you if you want an active halls for first year, the fact that it's cheaper in comparison to the other halls with ensuite makes everything a lot better

I'm also considering SPC as well, may ask do the room looking at the images on the University of Nottingham website?
Also, I was looking at the types of rooms that SPC offer, and I'm considering Premium En-suite Range 2, may I ask if you think this is a good option?

Sorry if I'm asking a lot I'm just really unsure and it's a bit annoying to don't get an opportunity to visit the accommodations before you pick. Thanks

The images are accurate. A photo doesn't really give you full perception uni hall rooms are fairly small but that goes for all university halls not just SPC.

I would say the SPC in new block are quite nice relative to your average hall, i.e. relatively new furnishings, good size desk. It's a decent self catered accommodation about a 25-30 minute walk to the east side entrance of uni park but if you need to go to the furthest west side of campus its probably another 20 minutes, of course their are free buses SPC provides one and their is a hopper bus from Jubilee campus (about a 5 minute walk from SPC)

May I ask do you think sharing a kitchen with 2-4 people is ideal because in considering this option as I don't want to have a kitchen with too many people? This room option offers a double bed and bigger room space as well which I think will be good for me however I think that will mean I might not share a block with many people, can you confirm this, please.

In addition, may I ask when applying for accommodation can you request to be in the new block or on a certain floor? etc. Thanks

TBH sharing kitchen with 5 or 6 people is pretty normal for halls, sometimes the ratio will be worse. If you want a nicer kitchen you really have to live in a private house (halls kitchens always get a bit of a battering from novice students who cant cook).

Social life in halls is always a little bit of a lottery as it depends who else you live with, I believe the blocks are 5 or 6 people in SPC new block, of course none of this prevents you from speaking to people in neighbouring blocks.

The most social halls are probably the catered ones as they have larger blocks and dining in the evening always provides an opportunity to meet with people.

TBH uni is what you make of it, you can end up in any hall, if you proactively look for social stuff you'll find plenty of options (obviously this year has been rather different with covid)

hii, i had a few questions about SPC too...
how many people you share a kitchen with in the new blocks of SPC?
is it actually diverse - culturally and in terms of what courses people are doing? as i'm on uni park campus i'm not sure if i'll find anyone else also going to uni park
and yeah, do you get to choose which block to apply for (i wanna go for new block but not sure how that works when you're applying) ?

Yes halls is diverse, although you never know who you get in your flat, their is always a lottery element.

They’ll be lots of people at SPC going to uni park, & you can bus or walk. You’ll find plenty of people.

I think you pick a room type and get allocated a block.

is the bus from SPC to UP only once an hour? what about the one from jubilee campus to UP?
and is it easy to socialise with people staying in other flats/blocks?

I think bus times vary,

I think SPC Is supposed to be once an hour but is not always reliable at peak times.

The buses to jubilee vary from every 15min to 30 minutes mon-fri & once an hour on weekends (at least they used to, I haven’t used the busses in a couple years). And tbh I often walked anyway just because I liked to get the steps in.

and what’s the general location around SPC like ? does it feel safe?
