Hey @Oxford Mum do you have a chapter on engineering science?

@NemesisRider is a bit of a superstar, tbh.
Hey, I’m torn between 4 colleges (for the human sciences course) if anyone has an inside scoop on them it’d be much appreciated
-Hertford
-St John’s
-Mansfield
-St Hugh’s
Basically all the colleges are great! And you may get moved around even if you pick one anyway. But in brief I would say: Hertford- central, pretty, bridge of sighs, musical. St John’s voted best college by Telegraph (!)- very rich, great accommodation, central, academic power house, Mansfield- highest state school entry, progressive, laid back, everyone seems to like Mansfield folk, St Hugh’s- far out, has fewer applicants because of this, but great facilities and a real meritocracy as all the ex women’s colleges are. You can’t go wrong really.

I think I will wait until there are more people on this thread, then I will post a chapter per week.

The first is Introduction - myth busting.....

@Wanirre
Hello everyone,

I am currently in AS Level studying Bio, Chem, Phys and Maths - I'm aiming for 4 A's in AS Level and entry into Oxbridge.

I was wondering if anyone else had similar goals to me just so I can network with like minded people?

Here are some of the things I have done:

I am a senior member of a nonprofit organisation (which I will not name as my comment might get taken down ) where we provide free help to students struggling in their exams - we have around 10k views on our website

I have entered numerous essay competitions, both national and international, and have been shortlisted a few times (sadly still havent won one )

Partaken in numerous virtual work experience programs and other such events. Worked in a care home in the US and also volunteered with disabled kids in the US.

Worked on a research project with a professor from Oxford

So yeah, that's pretty much everything about me. If anyone would like to connect with me, feel free to reply to this post! I may sound like a total nerd but I'm really not !!

That all sounds really cool! How did you go about the research project? I’ve looked for placements but they only seem to be for if you’ve been in care or on free school meals.

Medicine!

Like to see some medics out there.

Younger son is in 4th year medicine. On Thursday he will begin his first night shift on ICU (Covid wards).

I have written a book called Oxford Demystified.

I wrote a chapter of how son got into Oxford medicine

Son's chapter

Offer holder's chapter (now in first year medicine)

Hope this helps.
Coming up tonight or tomorrow...

Oxford Demystified - guide to reapplying successfully thread

This thread will be started up by my friend irl Dobbo, who got in on his fifth attempt!

After that, I will be calling all the Oxford students who got in the second time round, and ask them to give as many comments and tips as possible.

I hope it is going to help many TSRians.

Shoot me a DM. I'll let you know how I got that research project - it wasn't a placement as such as the collaboration was all done virtually. More role was mainly to help in the dissemination of the results of the trial moreso than the trial itself.

No, I am really sorry, but I want to preserve his privacy.

He has never been on the Student Room.

He is so busy, even I can't get to speak to him half the time.
