Convinced I'm hopeless at maths at this point :)

If anyone would mind helping:

Here is the question:

I'm confused on what's happening with the times; for the second particle is the time t + 1 or t -1? Also, where would I go from here?

Write your equations for the second particle with t' instead of t. What is the value of t' when t=1? Can you write t' in terms of t?

Since the second particle starts 1 s later, but arrives the same time, you can sub t -1 into the equation for second particle.
both particle travel the same distance, so use s = (u + v)t/2, substituting values for each particle and equating each expression, since s is the same.
Solve for t.

So I've done this... not really sure if it's correct.

First particle: s = 1/2 (u + v) t
s = 4t
Second: s = 1/2 (u + v) t
s = 6t'

6t' = 4t ...?

nearly there
t' = t - 1

t' = t - 1

6t - 6 = 4t
t = 4 :smile:

6t - 6 = 4t is good, but...
