You'd think so but some people so strange things.

If Boris lost the union for example I would probably vote Labour to punish him and ensure he was no longer PM albeit that's an extreme example.

The Union is becoming the greatest constitutional crisis this country has faced since King Charles stepped foot in Parliament.

Aye. We have a Labour Party who's MP's don't fully believe in it and a Conservative Party who's ability to defend it is questionable, certainly under Boris.

It’s because the only way they think they can preserve it is by stopping devolution, which they honestly can’t stomach because of the backlash they’ll receive

Britain has really got itself stuck up shitcreek without a paddle because of that bloody Brexit referendum. Scotland never wanted to leave. Now we have the harshest most uncompromising Brexit possible. Keir Starmer has come out as a hard line Brexiteer. He objects to any compromise to rejoin the single market irrespective of how opinions could change.
Scotland wants to rejoin the modern progressive world and enjoy links with its nearest neighbours in Europe and lets its people enjoy the freedoms of being in Europe, freedom of movement right to live and work across 27 nations etc.
Scotland is trapped in an isolationist hermit kingdom and the anti-European Labour Party refuses to make any compromises. Then tells Scotland they must stay in the union. Doesn’t seem right to me.

We’re all part of one nation, of which the majority voted to leave the EU. The price of living in a democracy is that you have to bear with the decisions that you don’t like

I’m a conservative and Mr Johnson didn’t get my vote the first time, and he won’t the next time, but I don’t think I’d ever stoop to voting Labour.

In a first past the post system I'll almost always vote for one of the two main parties unless they are equally bad.
The reason I voted for the Conservatives in 2019 is that they were the only party who were actually going to respect the result of the referendum.

Have you considered the Lib Dems too?

I haven't considered them since they campaigned to overturn the referendum, and I haven't really seen anything of Mr. Davey either.

Labour now back down to their 2019 election result in the polls with Survation.

Who'd have thought that Labour centrists were so bad at politics?

In May, Starmer's net approval with Opinium was +30. Today it is +2.

Talk about a vaccine bounce all you want, but this is down to Starmer being one of the least inspiring leaders of the opposition in living memory.
Net approval is not massively important to an election except indicating low turnout (i.e. Tories being willing to stay home), if I were looking at these figures I'd be more worried that his raw preferred PM score has not really moved as that's more indicative of people actually wanting to vote for you.

I get that you're looking at this through a Tory perspective, but there's no way you can argue that Starmer's numbers aren't heading south.

His and Labour's tactic seems to be to say 'we don't need any policies or to oppose the govt, once everyone seems how incompetent they are, they'll vote for us'.

The big problem of course is thst when the govt do something well, like vaccines, it shows that Starmer has absolutely nothing to say on anything.

Literally cutting off your nose to spite your face
Labour’s report this morning encouraging reparations and all this woke nonsense does nothing to help Starmer at all. I’ve got to admit, as someone who cannot stand the majority of socialist policies it’s amusing to watch Labour implode themselves with no outside interference. It’s like they don’t want to be electable.
Well compared to Gordon Brown, Ed Milliband and Corbyn I should hope so lol

Is it better than Ed's though? He was polling above the Tories alot of the time.

What's going on now is that the pandemic engulfs everything and the public don't want to see the opposition appear to play politics with covid. Once covid has ended there could be a 2 year run way where Keir can hit home on popular issues the Tories are failing at and the gutter media don't have the time to destroy him like they do with every leader over a period of 4/5 years. That's my hope as well as Labour actually being good once they get in and haven't got high on their own supply of do nothing centrism.

Also please can some party build more houses either through the market or council housing. I want to be able to move out my parents house at some point in my life without crippling myself financially.

@Burton Bridge I don’t think this kind of woke ******** helps your polls with the working class voters. Wouldn’t mind your opinion on this latest bit of woke propaganda.

Strictly speaking Starmer is probably doing better than Miliband but only if we compare like for like for like at this stage (Tory polling held up in 2011 and indeed they gained council seats). Where Miliband did better was in the 2012-2014 period where he more or less held a consistent lead in polling and took about 800 council seats from the Tories net. Corbyn of course flopped, his high point being winning 79 seats in 2018 and he basically only had a tiny polling lead for a year.

Can't judge too much in May given likely abysmal turnout and the 2017 map being a gift for him albeit the 2016/deferred 2020 map is a good judge.

The 2018/2022 map though starts from a draw so if he's not beating Boris next year then that's a very bad sign. No opposition leader has won power without a plurality of council seats apparently.
